"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

It's a chicken/egg thing though, isn't it? Are non/casual viewers going to be hooked in by technical analysis or by making it seem 'fun'? Technical analysis definitely won't do it - but I can't see this doing it either. The games all felt like someone remembered on Thursday that they hadn't come up with anything yet.

It was absolutely dismal - and if you want to crowbar famous faces into it, at least pick someone who likes the sport. I watched the games in the breaks out of morbid curiosity, but the good thing is that once the actual game is on you're back to proper US coverage. If it affected that it would have been a disaster, but overall I was happy to be able to watch on C5 as a Washington fan.

Did they actually win the trip, by the way? I know their ball came out but I wasn't really listening whether they actually won or not.

Zeb, I remember when channel 4 had the NFL, Frank Gifford was one of the experts wasn't he?

Is Channel 5's coverage still produced by Whisper?
The old BBC NFL show was and it was cofinanced by NFL specifically to get noobs interested in the sport here in the UK. I remember the old Channel 4 coverage which, after the first year, assumed that the viewers had some knowledge of it.
I bit the bullet for the first time this year and went for Gamepass from the off.
NFL Redzone is a pretty intense watch and fuck knows how Scott Hansen holds it together on his own for the duration of the programme.I'll digest the full horror of the Dolphins thrashing later today.

The coverage was ok after they seemed to give up on playing stupid games in the studio like an attempt to make it TFI Friday with NFL. it was utter shit. I want to see analysis of what happened rather than some grinning goon trying to throw donuts over someone’s finger to earn a prize. I get they were going for casuals but it was so awful it’s not going to capture anyone. Fucking special guest Joel dommett who openly admitted he knows fuck all about American football and did some lame joke insulting team names which will go down like shit among fans. Sam fucking Quek as an ‘expert analyst’. Just let Osi talk about the game so people can get to understanding it. It’s not reinventing the wheel.

All the headlines tomorrow will be about Rodgers winning against the side that discarded him - and he did play well, throwing four TDs.

But you just know that the Steelers will be forced to be all about Rodgers this season, and that’s if his body holds up. They’ll have no choice, because he becomes the travelling circus.

So I still think that Glenn and Mougey did the right thing moving him out of New York. We needed to focus on becoming a team again, and rebuilding from scratch.

Dunno where we’ll end up. But the early signs are decent. Fields also played well today. And his team-mates actually seem to like him. Which makes a change since the days of Rodgers and Zach Wilson.

That’s the most organised I’ve seen us under a new coach since Rex Ryan back in 2008.

More than any other sports team, the Jets have an extraordinary ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

But even though we lost 34-32 to a highly experienced Steelers team, we actually looked like an NFL team.

Aaron Glenn is a serious coach. New HC, new QB, half a new squad, and a key lineman out for the season. Yet we looked competitive against a team that has spent huge. It bodes well.

Our kicker, 40-year-old Nick Folk, looks like he wandered into the stadium from the Boleyn pub.

Proper ale gut, and a man who should not be wearing Lycra shorts. But he just kicked a 51-yard FG.

This game has started mental. 16-10 Jets and only just into Q2.

If you can find this game, take a peek. It’s old skool smash and grab from both sides at the moment. They can’t keep up this pace.

Seen one quarter and a few plays of Aaron Glenn as Jets HC, and not even winning (10-9 down).

But the Jets have a proper head coach here. We look like a team, and not just a bunch of individuals. Came out of the blocks moving the ball.

This Steelers defense looks good, though. Going to be a tough game.

Jets v Steelers
Fields v Rodgers

No fucking around between these two sides. Straight into each other. 9-7 Jets after first Q.

Jets straight up the middle, running the ball on opening drive for a field goal.

Rodgers sacked on his opening play! Then he woke up and started hurling. Got a decent TD. Then Fields hurls an even longer TD to Garrett Wilson. The old Ohio State combo.

It’s pretty compelling stuff so far. Have it!

The first set of Hammerettes were fairly easy on the eye, I seem to remember.

Then they were nicked by Fulham (?) and Sullivan ended up getting the Temu version of the Hammerettes, who I remember looked more filthy.
Fucking hell. He even lowballed the CHEERLEADERS and then got in cheapo replacements. They are probably still shuffling about in the boiler room of the bowl because he signed them on 25 year contracts and can't get rid of them.
