NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"TM - nope! Maybe a season or two ago - but although the Jets are in a terrible state, they need to find a longer-term solution at QB. Besides, we've just had an overpaid veteran taking up a huge chunk of the salary cap this year - and need to pay Enunwa and some others a little more next season to keep them happy. Fitz is likely to retire at the end of this season, and I think that they will let Geno go, too. It'll leave Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg to battle it out for the 2017 starter's job. My biggest worry is that they don't have the talent on the offensive coaching (particularly QB coaching) side of the franchise, to identify which (if any) of the two promising youngsters might actually be an NFL starter. Personally, I like the look of Hackenberg - but his final year at college was underwhelming (although that probably had something to do with Penn State's awful o-line)."

"southbank, don't you fancy taking Romo? I know he's injury prone but he'd love throwing to Marshall, Decker & Enuwa"
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"This performance by Rodgers has been absolutely brilliant. Even the catches not made have been perfect and receiver error on drops. I mean I loved Montana and Young, but this man is up there as maybe the greatest thrower I've seen when on the run or under pressure."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"I kinda' get the feeling that the Jets know exactly who they want in the first round of the draft. and have realised that they may need to finish 4-12 to get him! Seriously, they haven't even bothered turning up today - it's embarrassing. I like Bowles, but he could well be on his way out after this season - and I don't mean his dodgy ticker..."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"YES! TAKE THAT, YOU FCKING PATSIES. Jets 3, New England 41! That's the greatest field goal ever scored, right there. Fitzpatrick has taken until ten minutes from the end of the game to break the 100-yard passing barrier. He's been picked off almost as many times as he's completed a pass. This is joke now."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Jets keeping it tight up at Foxborough, I see. Just the 41-point deficit going into the last ten. Fight the power!"
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Eat that Buffalo you fucking cheats. All team bias aside, how the fuck can it be legal for them to play a freight train noise at a billion decibels every time the Miami play is being radioed in?"
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Didn't know there were any games today? Come on you Vikes, smash the fucking Cheeseheads"

"Cough - I feel for the Vikes. They're like a mid-west version of the imploding Jets! When I look at the line-up on paper, they should be brutal and in the mix in the NFC north. But, like our lot, they just manage to under-perform every time."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"TM - yep, we've had a lot of injuries, and they clearly haven't helped. But that's only part of the story. The previously-excellent defensive line has not been the same since Wilkerson decided he wanted away (he's playing at around 80%, and it shows) and Sheldon Richardson got stung for PEDs - he hasn't been the same player since (read into that what you will!). Revis' rapid demise has added to things - and has been painful to watch. I genuinely think he's one of the two best cover cornerbacks ever to play the game (at his peak, the ""island"" tag wasn't an exaggeration in any way whatsoever). But his body can't handle the demands placed on him now, and he's a shadow of his former self. Still a decent player, but it's painful watching Revis be just decent. He was unquestionably the best in his position for many years. So the defense, which has been our saving grace for many years, is this year as incompetent and ineffective as the woeful offense. Letting Ivory go was a bad call, however much the Jags paid him, and paying Fitz $12m this year was way over the top. He thrived last year because he had two great targets (Marshall and Decker) and Ivory's presence in the backfield drew a second member of the opposition's secondary up to the line of scrimmage very often, creating space for the wide-outs. Forte was a good RB years back, but can be handled with single-man coverage these days - leaving every opponent free to double-team Marshall or Decker."

"southbank, I feel for you and the other jets fans. so much potential but always fall short. I thought you'd go the playoffs this season but as per usual, Fitzpatrick went back to his usual form. haven't you had a lot of injuries too?"
