Rugby World Cup

Not a massive fan of this sport. Seems everyone forgets the rules when on the pitch and give away stupid penalties. One thing thoug I'm pretty sure it was meant to be played in 30C temperatures. Those big guys will be collapsing in this heat.

"Re ref decisions - watching here in Ireland so you're getting a very unbiased opinion. At ht the consensus was the SAF player should've been penalised for head high tackle. At FT Matt Williams (AUS) said 'appalling, appalling refereeing decisions on the scrum penalties & I totally disagree with them'. Then Ian Madigan added that the ref had made his mind made up about the scrums & he was only looking for one thing, ie an English infringement."

Can someone explain why the ref awarded the penalty to South Africa at the end that gave them the win? What did we do to warrant them the gift chance to win the game? Seems cunty to me.

Once our scrum started to fold there was an inevitability about the outcome in my mind. That we lost by only one point in a World Cup semi was predicted by nobody when our players ran out for the first game of this tournament. A noble effort by Borthwick and the squad.

Not a rugby expert but I'm baffled by all the kicking as it just seems to give possession away. Is it just to keep the ball as far from your 22 as possible?

Great effort from us but you have to say S.African squad are all world class they actually got stronger even with all the changes

"Sinckler, Genge & Vunipola begin replacements cost us a place in the final, would have had any of them near any squad. But still, a fantastic effort and have to be chuffed overall. We're the NH daddies at World Cups, will be exactly the same in 4 years time."

"Fair play to England, a great tournament for them and we’ll always remember that major win against Fiji"

It was the scrum that did it. Their replacements made the difference and Sinckler was taken to bits. It was the last final all over again. We were so good for so long but never threatened to score a try. The Saffers had one chance and took it.

No consolation but ENG were the better side on the night. SAF never looked like winning the game. But then they won it.

"I’m not sure what’s worse. Getting battered or losing by a point. The South African team is full of wankers though. I suppose that’s rugby players in general, but they take it to another level."

"Gutted, probably the scrum that cost us. Great effort though considering what many thought the score would be."

"No cսnt knows the rules of this game, the players look mystified on 50% of the stoppages. Refs just make it up as they go along. Its exciting though."

In these conditions you're better off kicking it away.

Way better than I expected so far. All credit to them because they’ve been fantastic. Monumental effort needed in the second half now.

England playing their forward game with aplomb so far - no room for error though

I wasn’t expecting that. Well done England. It’s going to be tough second half.
