May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.
Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Were you in the room whilst this negotiating was taking place?
Everyone was fuming that we were apparently going to sign the Brazilian, shocking we'd choose the cheap option over Hermansen, now we're signing Hermansen, we're cunts because a few Youtubers looking for clicks are saying we have treated him badly.
None of you planks know what actually happened. The only thing we know is that Hermansen is signing, which overall is a massive upgrade in the keeper department. I don't like our owner, but some of you cunts will moan about absolutely anything, it's pathetic.

I didn’t have sympathy. I did think it was a typically classless negotiating tactic that could have a reap what you sow impact down the line. I’m sure John will have a lovely life down on the Copacabana earning only £20k a week.

Does that mean we now don't have to do the fake, pathetic sympathy thing?

Speculation, Speculation, Speculation
Club has done a blinder here with the keeper.

Obviously Macauley is head of the recruitment dept, but what does that actually mean? He doesn't seem to be involved in negotiations so it's effectively head of scouting. That's it.
He isn't in a position of power to question what Sullivan does and neither is the manager really, seeing as he knows he's just a couple of bad results away from the sack. The whole setup is perfect for Sullivan to assume complete control. This is my problem with Macauley: it's just a nothing role.
Completely agree with almost all of the second paragraph and the sullivan stuff 100%, but that's harsh on Macauley when we just don't know. If he's got the keeper and the left back in, then that's definitely not nothing. God knows who the Sullivan brain trust would have lumbered us with as alternatives.

When you start a new job you settle what your role & responsibilities & control will be
If he didn’t get assurances that Sullivan will keep his beak out then that’s his lookout

Newcastle miss out on Sesko to lowly Man Utd
Having an absolute MARE this window
Probably get stuck with Isak while he refuses to play

To say Macauley does fuck all is a bit harsh, if your employer won't give you the means to do anything significant.
My issue with Macauley is that he was never meant to do anything significant. That's the very reason that he's here. Potter has always used him simply as a go-between (or "conduit" as Chelsea called him when he followed Potter there). Sullivan probably likes him as he's not looking to control who we buy like a Director of Football would. All in all it just seems that his value to the club is minimal and he is little more than a costly assistant to the current manager.
We don't really have any idea though do we, what they actually do and what their relationships are. Not sure why you'd call him head of recruitment if he wasn't involved in any recruiting. He's just be assistant manager or something like that.

Head of recruitment= Head of Recruitment Ideas. Caveat...they need to cost no more than ~5m and be flippable for 10 times that after one season.
The role is basically chief Treasure Hunter.
The comment about flipping for 10 times the value is an odd one in the light of West Ham's shocking record of making a profit on player trading
Well that's the satirical take on the expectations being set on the 'head of recruitment" position. Thee have been rumours all Summer that the players identified by Macaulay are "too expensive". And Steidten was castigated for not finding any "pearls".
Yes, I'd agree at WHU it's a very thankless position. The expectations from Sullivan seem pretty unrealistic. Essentially 'find me several players unrealistically cheap who are a 100% chance of success, will make an impact right now and then we can sell on for a profit.' It's just not that easy and I fully expect he knows that. By placing unrealistic demands on them and vetoing the vast majority of proposed signings it's easy for him to turn round and say they aren't doing anything and he could do better.

I wouldn't be surprised if the short lived Steidten era gave him an either higher opinion of his own abilities. Let's face it, Steidten might have got most of the deals done quickly but he seemed to overpay almost every time. By a lot. So Sully probably thinks if ANY of his cheapo deals come off then he'll have done a better job. This is all assuming that Sully's gone back to negotiating deals as before and our latest "Head of recruitment" does pretty much fuck all, which wouldn't surprise me.

I can't lie I actually preferred Botofogo Big Fucking John looks a character and can drill a 60 yard pass with some accuracy, though it was said the reason he was signing was because he didn't mind fighting for his place, maybe it is both..

This became almost as predictable as the Wilson signing once we got his mentor in.
Slightly more than I'd be willing to pay for him. But at least it's nowhere near the price they wanted.

Yeah, it's pretty low class isn't it, unless they are both coming in. Embarrassing for the player, and for Botofogo as a club to be messed around like that. That's one more club who won't be doing Sullivan any favours going forward if he's not also on his way. I don't see why he would be, unless he's happy coming in as a number 2.

I had always thought the John bid was to give the hurry up to Leicester. Clearly it’s worked as the price has come down by £7m for Hermansen; but fucking hell I didn’t think we’d let it go as far as his manager confirming he’s off!
It is unsurprisingly classless, unless we are signing both and Areola is off, but cannot see that.

He's changed his mind about Rennes and willing to take a pay-cut becuase he's heard they will be wearing a Kappa kit next season.
Unironically true. Obviously not the nonsense about Kappa.
But he is willing to take a pay-cut. Desperate to move back to France, by all accounts.
At least you now admit that the kappa stuff was nonsense.

Mad Foreskin 5 years late on the Areola to Rennes story
They were interested when he was at Fulham

Areola to Rennes, so highly likely we get both.
