It will have been 16 days since we saw what football at the top end of things could look like by Arsenal, who made us look second class citizens in footballing terms.
This game is unusual this season, in so far as the bookies have us down as favourites to win. Monday nigth, under the lights....but how empty will the bowl be. With a boycott planned, kids for a quid, general sale tickets up for cheap, and Nuno's first home game, the atmosphere and attendance is anyone's guess.
Injuries wise, our Big Fucking German is big fucking injured again...reducing the options up front to the two Callum's. Nuno chose to save ~86k in wages last time out, preferring the pace and mobility of Marshall over Wilson, and it will be interesting to see if he does the same thing here, or goes for a 'makeshift' centreforward. And of course Soucek is back.
Other than that, there are no fresh concerns reported going into the weekend.
Predicted Starting Lineup:Areola
Wan Bissaka Mavropanos Kilman Diouf
Magassa
Fernandes Soucek Paqueta Summerville
Bowen (c)
Subs: Hermansen, KWP, Igor, Potts, Guilherme, Marshall, Rodriguez, Wilson, Scarles
Predicted Score: 1-0 (Soucek)

Nuno, "the fans were concerned and that filtered down to the players making them anxious".

Shocking what Nuno did with tonight's tactics. Hung some players out to dry.
I don’t understand any of it. What on earth was any of the thinking behind it? The starting line up, the tactics, the substitutions. None of it makes any logical sense. It’s like every manager is on a mission to make us even worse than we were previously by using more and more insane methods to lose football games.
Dartboard Football mate.

Feels like it, but what is it about West Ham that seems to make managers lose their minds and make absolutely MENTAL, nonsensical decisions? The last three have all done it and gone down rabbit holes of insanity. At least with the last two it took a short while. Nuno seems to have lost his marbles in double quick time. What possessed him to make that string of decisions tonight?
I was for a moment glad he'd seen the error of his ways in the starting line up and gone bold to address it at half time, but then I saw the subs and just lost a bit of hope. We were an absolute makeshift mess at the end and it just felt like he was completely making it up as he went along with no logic to anything and it showed in how lost the players looked and how disjointed it all was.

Trouble is we have 11 games until Jan and will lose the lot based on tonight. Problems all over the pitch but total domination in midfield was the biggest. Still no legs in there and we’ve been saying that since BFS brought us back up.
We didnt concede ( just ) from a set piece? I found a positive but its irrelevant. Brentford missed 4 or 5 gilt edged chances. 0-6 or 0-7 would have been a much fairer reflection of the game.
Irvine and Soucek in centre mid ? WTF. Fernandes invisible, Paqueta wasteful even tho he did try at times. He should be deep as a no 8 and Fernandes the 10 imo.
Scarles is young but he aint Prem level and Marshall is not a central striker and since we couldnt get or keep the ball he got zero service. But he’s too lightweight to lead the line.
The inverted backs was just nonsense. KWP had done well as a right back but looked poor and too small tonight.
Thing is only Potts and Magassa to come in and now we’ve lost our best ( relatively speaking not sayimg he’s a superstar ) CB.
The squad, manager and of course owner all exposed tonight.
No crumbs of comfort or cause for hope that I could see.

Avram Grant’s team was worse.
Don’t blame Nuno, he has just arrived. Blame a series of bad transfer decisions. Blame the majority of a squad that don’t seem to care. Blame an absence of decent centre backs.
You can’t ignore that most other teams supporters blame West Ham’s fans for getting rid of David Moyse and say this is just desserts. Sick club ?
But you CAN blame Nuno for some truly horrendous decisions tonight. I’m sorry, but no manager gets a free pass when he drops Diouf, puts Scarles (a left back) at right back and Walker-Peters (a right back) at left back, plays a Championship player in Irving alongside a guy whose legs have gone (Soucek) and puts Brazil’s #8 midfielder upfront on his own as a #9. Then refuses to bring on the only half-decent striker we have on our books.
Sorry - nobody gets away with that without justified criticism. What we saw from Nuno tonight was was utterly batshit.

The divs couldn't have got it more wrong having made the effort to turn up to a game designated a Boycott they then leave dirt early defeating the whole purpose of staying away in the fucking first place!

I assumed that Nuno would keep it all nice and simple for the dopey bunch we have representing us currently. What was he thinking? Today was a day to go back to basics and to try to find some confidence and cohesion. He seems a smart thoughtful guy but in one game he’s managed to make himself well and truly part of the problem of this truly dysfunctional club.

Its just fucking boring now
you pick your best players in their best positions and then fill in the gaps
If they tire after a while because theyve been playing out in mozambique, wembley or wherever - make subs then
Its stupidity, even a complete idiot could get a tune out of these players
Keith andrews was putting the cones out and cutting up oranges 3 months ago and out managed nuno
It's the over-complicating shit for no reason that does my nut in when manager's do these whacky tactics and overlook the bleeding obvious at times.
And after the game I fucking hope Wilson goes and rugby tackles him in to a bin!

Sunderland battered us with 33 year old Granit Xhaka, Brentford battered us with 35 year old Jordan Henderson let that sink in.
Yep, both head and heels above our shower of shit midfielders.
But let's hope the goal threat Soucek is fit against Leeds eh?

I have one hope left. I really believe Nuno isn’t as fucked up a narcissist as the last 3 managers we’ve had. I really believe he will be utterly embarrassed by this. And because of that we will see something positive from this experience. I just have to believe that. None of this shit makes any sense otherwise.
My only guess is that he’s been giving some fringe players a chance to see if there’s anything he can work with. But he knows that isn’t our 1st 11. And sadly so many fluffed the audition today if that’s what it was.

Didn't think we could get any worse than when Potter was here but that was a new low from the team selection to the performance.

It’s crazy that we started with no striker and two full backs playing on the wrong side. A goal down at half time, we bring on 3 defenders and still no striker. This isn’t the time for experimenting. We should be trying to get the basics right.
So much wrong with us right now.
It had an arrogant stench about it. First Home game against very winnable opposition after a relatively good start away from home so goes with that madness. Someone can tell PTSD suffering Nuno he can finally unfold his arms and stop chewing his gum looking utterly clueless now as the game's over.

I said we’d be relegated before the season started.
I think it’s nailed on now. Bowen aside, nothing about West Ham says Premier League right now.
Shambolic club.

Im really stating to think the best thing right now is relegation If it’s end of Sullivan. He’s literally destroyed us. We need to go back to the drawing board starting with a new ground. We have no spiritual home and that bowl is going to be an echo chamber in the championship. Easy pickings for visiting teams. Without someone buying Sullivan out we are basically MK dons in waiting.

What a wonderful time to be living as a West Ham supporter?
This shit team is all down Loppy. Paid a fortune for bunch of duds that not even Brian Clough, Bob Paisley or Herbert Chapman could have done anything with. He bought some of the worst defenders imaginable, and some shit midfielders too. Sorry to have to break it to you but even an incurable optimist like me can see we are fucked. We are going down, get used to it.

We are going down unless by some miracle there happens to be three worse teams than us but I don't see that at the moment. What on earth did people see in players like Kilman, Todibo and others, especially considering the money spent on a lot of them? 40 odd million for Kilman? How much for Todibo? It just beggars belief. I'm seriously missing Fornals, Lanzini, Dawson and Kehrer, at least they seemed to care. This squad is seriously crap, worst team I've seen since Avram and I'm pretty sure that team had better players. If I was Bowen I'd be off in January, he doesn't deserve this shit. Wilson same, if Guido is coming on before him I'd be off tonight.
What on earth was Nuno doing? Yes it's a shit squad so just pick a nice basic formation and pick players in their normal positions. Inverted wing backs behind inside forwards? WTF?! One in midfield for most of the second half? Rodriguez instead of Potts or Magassa? Baffling. It can't be Wilson's age putting him off considering he played Chris Wood at Forest, just bizarre.
Every decision this club makes it gets worse. I can't see how to change it with the players available in defence and midfield. Can Magassa and Fernandes show they are worth it? Even if they can who do you replace Kilman and Todibo with? Can Soucek and Wan Bissaka play at centre back? We are buggered and January ain't going to save us. If that had been Arsenal or City tonight it could easily have been ten.
