Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

I tend to agree with threesixty on Grealish and would think young, relatively unknown players with something to prove are better options for the long term and probably short term too.  Grealish is not the player he was 2/3 seasons back imo anyway and approaching thirty his trajectory is probably downwards as players tend to be at their best arpund 25-28 years old.  And the Premier League intensity means there are few players that can really compete once they get into their 30s nowadays. Yes there ate some and their position determines that too but Hrealish is not exactly the quick, strong, physical type that works relentlessly for the team. He dives around a lot too and that is frustrating and sometimes embarassing. Its what “grinds my gears” with Paqueta and when he loses it in midfield its often costly

The days of a maverick, individual are over imo such is the physical demand of the Premier Lge.

This stinks of Sullivan and razzle / dazzle.

What agent is going to allow their top PL players to go to us? For what? Im sure we are odds on one of the favourites to go down next season given the form we have had for the previous 6 months!

I dont want to hear about ANY big PL names coming to us this season as it will be a massive con! They will be either injury prone, over the hill, mercenaries etc.. And that will kill us off.

Def no PL players at all. If we are lucky we can find a DiCanio/Payet/Arnie type player who is trying to prove something, but thats about it. Other than that, young, relatively unknown players from overseas is the only way forward. For our wage bill and who want / need to succeed in the PL because they want big moves eventually. Thats the profile.

Cant have another Ings on the wage bill.. or JWP etc.. Its mental.

Grealish would love playing for us fans and I reckon he’d put full effort in. But far too expensive. Never coming to us. He’s a bit of a luxury we can’t really afford at the moment over players to make the spine of the team function. If we were in a better position then he’d be a great addition.

Got Villa written all over him. Or somewhere in Europe. Don’t think he goes to Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool. Options are a bit limited unless he wants to take a big pay cut.

A keeper who is also handy with his feet. And a central midfielder who capable of going box to box all day. Would be nice.!

How about the chance of European football next season? An achievement he'd have had a big say in.

I remember saying that we needed to replace Coufal some time ago and was shot down by Goose saying that we had a right back in AWB and therefor didn’t need to replace him. Just goes to show what he knows.
Still obsessed with me I see.
Ignoring your lies, the conversation was about what’s the priority. I said given our budget restraints I would focus on a few other positions first.

and we’ve just dropped a big wage and signing on fee on a squad player.

the glaring holes in midfield and upfront and at centre back still remain.
Not obsessed with you ffs, just responding to your attack at that time. I knew it gonna happen, for anyone who knows even just a little bit about football it was obvious he needed replacing. Turns out I was right and you were wrong again.
You think wasting a tonne of wages on a squad player is some kind of vindication? Can he play centre mid? No. Centre forward? No. Centre back? No.

Let’s see how many more we get through the door before showing off about expensive squad players.

How many clubs are lining up to sign Coufal since he became a free agent? Not even Fulham who apparently wanted hin in January

Grealish at Villa was allowed to be the creative hub of the team
At City he is asked to be a cog in Pep’s machine & forget most of his creativity
He needs to be a big fish in a smaller pool
We are the sort of tepid paddling pool that would suit him
Be surprised if it happened

The Grealish version at Villa I liked, the one that can barely scored these days in recent seasons I'm not keen on at all. If he regained his old form it would be a positive signing if the deal was right. Attracted by the bright lights of London would playboy Jack still have the hunger to perform and not be easily distracted? It's questionable.

I would absolutely fucking love us to sign Grealish.

Class player, class lad, thick as pigshit but would give me a reason to do that fucking slog of a walk in no mans land from the station.

Not surprised some of you librarians are turning your nose up though. Boring cunts.

If Grealish is on a wage subsidised loan in addition to a younger midfielder, and not instead of, I can get on board. He’s the sort of player we’ve always loved. Someone who gets you off your feet. Different generation but we signed Di Canio at 30.

Walker-Peters is clearly a smart signing for free when we have a limited budget, for all the reasons detailed. Experienced, covers both sides, allows AWB to play on the back three. 28 is not old, and is an upgrade on Coufal who it seems some were happy to give another deal to at nearly 33…

Wouldn't surprise me if Kwp becomes a fixture in the 1st 11 with Awb playing in the back 3 which could allow a CB to be sold to bring some money in

No problem at all with KWP joining on a free. Is younger than Coufal, Emerson & Cresswell, has more energy & can cover all their positions so 2 in 3 out makes a lot of sense financially and allows us to free up bench & squad places. Will also allow Scarles plenty of oppirtunities as they will be the only fullback cover we have. So with KWP being more naturally rigjt sided and Scarles being more naturally left sided it offers a good balance and makes sense.

We could end up with JCT, JWP, AWB, EHMD and KWP which could get a tad confusing though.

Can hear Sullivan now “you get 3 picks Potter and I will get the rest for you and you’re nerdy mate Kyle, look at them as my gifts to you. I know my onions when it comes to football and recruitment and transfers. Im still the best there is”.   “That Macaulay geezer and his spreadsheets, data analysis, he’s clueles”

Probably just as well that he won't be coming here to play either of those roles then. As an attacking wing-back he's a much better option than either Coufal (who absolutely cannot run up and down the flank all game any more) or Emerson (who pretty much always wanted to cut inside as soon as he got near the half way line).

Depends on what kind of contract he might be offered, but as a necessary squad backup/competition for AWB and Diouf, this a decent signing and should allow us to spend more on other areas of the team.
