NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I’m not generally one to whinge about the overall refereeing in the NFL, which tends to be pretty good for a sport that, understandably (for player safety), has a lot of rules. In general, poor play calls (and of course they happen) even themselves out.
But, fuck me, the Chiefs got some serious help from the refs last night.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Excellent performance from Washington, that.
Naive from Detroit, as I feared. They’ve got the tools to win the lot but, as TM said, you have to grind out parts of the game and they were still calling trick plays when they should have knuckled down. That’s on their coaching staff, all of whom are highly coveted right now.
Daniels is top drawer. Very little fazes him. Superb attitude.

Last thing I’ll say on it as this isn’t the thread for it.
Probably best if people don't post in the thread, soley to demand highly racist terms be reinstated into the sport then, and just stick to the game. If someone is going to be a racist cսnt on here, though, damn right I'm going to call them out for it.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Anyways, like TM said this is not the thread for politics. This is one of the few on here that is pure and for the enthusiasts.
I always like reading this thread as I have a passing interest in the game, but don’t understand it enough t contribute.
I watched the first half of the KC game but gave up when Mahomes started flopping around trying to buy flags. I really hope they don’t win it. My brother lives in the states and is a REDSKINS fan so I hope they win.

How the fuck are Detroit favourite for the Super Bowl with this defense? Make West Ham this season look good at defending!

Got the beers in and enjoying an.all nighters. Want Lions to win this year, primarily because they are one of only 2 original teams to never reach the Superbowl. Get more into the thing during play offs. Love a good match in the cold and snow too.

Yeah, Jerry Jones showed his characteristic lack of class over Mike McCarthy.
I would say the Jets should interview him but, to be honest, anybody coming out of the Dallas hothouse needs some time to clear their mind! He should take a year off.
Dallas will likely throw a big money offer at Ben Johnson. He should, of course, turn it down!
I'd go for Monken if I were the Jets, too. At this point, I'd want to interview him and Glenn and then make a choice. The lack of any GM appointment - and any GM input over the new HC - speaks volumes about how chaotic the Jets are. I'm afraid absolutely nothing has changed.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
No, I stand by my theory you need an offensive mind in charge. Monken would be perfect, I think the OC with the Texans (Slowik, another from the Shanahan tree) is also very good but much younger. He would be a gamble. Kellen Moore is a no for me. Kliff would be a good pick, but there's still that question about him running the whole show, and one I like a lot is Liam Coen of the Bucs. Your owner needs to start moving, as Vrabel showed these jobs and coaches get picked up very quick

It would be a left-field choice.
I like the sound of Whitt, especially as he has coaching experience on both sides of the ball. But he's probably been a bit of a "yes man" to Dan Quinn as your DC, which makes me skeptical about his ability to come in as a HC. Quinn is an excellent defensive mind - one of the best in the league - and he must surely be calling the shots on that side of things in Washington.
If we went after a Washington coach, surely we should be considering giving Kingsbury (OC) another shot at things?
At this stage, I think it's going to go to Aaron Glenn - who is, at least, running the show defensively in Detroit. Campbell and Johnson are both offensive specialists. So they've left Glenn to run the defense. My only doubt about Glenn is the basic (and most important Q): is he an upgrade on Saleh? No point sacking a HC if the guy coming in is not an improvement. Glenn might be. He might not be.
The other name seemingly in the frame is Arthur Smith, OC at Pittsburgh. But he really struggled without a decent QB when he was HC in Atlanta - and Pittsburgh's offense has been their Achilles heel this season. No, he's not a yes man at all, and he's in charge of the defence. As, I said we don't want to lose him so please take someone else
Interesting. Maybe we should have a good look at Whitt, then?
The Jets, as usual, have put themselves in a poor position by not really having much of a succession plan after opting to sack Saleh. I wasn't against them doing it, as he wasn't improving as a HC after three years. But when you decide to sack somebody, you've got to set a better replacement as the benchmark.
I'm not sure the disorganised Jets thought that through enough. They relied on Vrabel being available - and then the Patsies ensured he wasn't (can't blame them). Now we're a bit fucked.

I think Woody was not expecting the Patriots to fire Mayo after one season - and assumed Vrabel would covet the Jets gig.
Thankfully, "insiders" seem to think Rex Ryan is out of the running for a return to New York.
Doesn't leave a crowded field. Looks more and more likely we will offer the role to Aaron Glenn. A Jets legend, but it's a huge step up for him as DC in Detroit to HC in New York. He's also regarded as the third-best coach in Detroit, after Campbell and Johnson (OC). Do we really want that?
I like him as a person. But it feels a bit Herm Edwards, and you have to wonder if that's an upgrade on Rob Saleh (which surely has to be the main aim of changing HCs?). Still, the fans like him and they will give him time to rebuild if he gets the job.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The guy who isn't getting a sniff as a HC candidate anywhere, and who I think should be in the frame is Todd Monken (OC) at Baltimore.
He might be a good fit for us. He's in his 50s and has been around the block a few times - he's not somebody whose reputation is based on a single season etc. He runs a "Jets football" offense, plenty of strength on the ground, and will be coming out of a franchise with a strong, solid coaching culture.
Of course, he's been helped enormously by having Lamar Jackson. So the Q would be how good is he without a top-five QB?
