NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"SBBB. TI think yes, in this case it's possibly true they are tanking! Although it's very risky if Lawrence pulls an Elway. I remember Lane Kiffin doing stuff like that at the Raiders too when it was clear he was on his way out. Like calling for a 72 yard field goal or something like that."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"This fantasy season is a nightmare! Chargers tanking killed me this week - 29 for the Pats defence?! Then what a mis-match at TE - Henry gets me 0.5 and Waller gets 32!! Haha - being 4 and 2 is a very distant memory now. Good job the Fins are going great guns to make up for it. Chin up Southbank, it's feels like only 2 minutes since Miami were heading for 0-16. So it can turn quite quickly."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Scorch - You're right on the general point. But in my view, we're now openly tanking on purpose - to stay ahead of the Jaguars for the #1 pick. Last night proved it, for me. Nobody calls a Cover Zero blitz on 3rd and 10 when you're winning with mere seconds to go. Nobody. That's beyond the idiocy even of a supreme idiot like Adam Gase."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"It's extremely rare a team will tank on purpose so I'd say it's hardly a big problem. Jobs and reputations, and pride for the players are all on the line, not to mention future earnings and livlihoods. A lot of players on bad teams fall out of the league never to get back in. No one wants the ignominy of going 0-16"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Tomlin is an excellent coach. I remember quite a few people inferring - without quite saying it - that he only got the job because of the Rooney Rule and the fact that he's black. Soon proved them all wrong. He's still only 48, too. Been the Steelers' coach for 13 years and he's not even 50. And, as you say, he's got one heck of a record. The Steelers are a very well run organisation. They always scout and draft well, considering the risks. They've had a few busts, but not many. Compare their draft record to ours..!"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The Big Lump is having one final purple patch this season. He's on fire. He's got one heck of an arm - still. What a QB he has been for them. He could probably hit a receiver in double coverage from half a mile away in the upstairs room of a mining-town brothel.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I don't blame any of the players, it's all on Gase & the Jets front office two of our old players have probably stopped us winning the NFC East. it will be tough now to catch the Giants who have three home games & the two wins against WFT. really need to turn up tonight against the Steelers, they have no run game but the Big Lump has got great chemistry with those receivers. hopefully Chase Young flattens him early"

"Pearcey: ""DM, we're 1-0 up with less than a minute to go and they've got the ball. We just have to sit on this and we're home and dry."" DM: ""Send them all forward."" Pearcey: ""What?"" DM: ""You heard - send them all forward. It's my masterplan. We're going 0-1-9 formation."" Pearcey: ""Right...it's justy that..."" DM: ""Never mind that, Stuart, I've watched Gase at his best...I know what I'm doing..."" Pearcey: ""OK, boss. You're the boss...for now..."""

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Nobody plays a Cover Zero blitz on 3rd and 10 when you're less than a minute from winning your first game of the season. Nobody. Goodell should call in the Jets and get them to explain that - because it is a con.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"TM - I agree. I've always thought that about the draft system and the perverse incentives it creates. On the whole I agree with the idea that the worst sides get first picks etc. That's a decent, simple, principle to try to keep the sport competitive. But they do need to have a system in place to stop obvious abuse of that principle. No professional sports team should set out with the aim of losing - and to provide an incentibve for it, without any reprimand - just seems odd. That call last night was disgraceful. Hermit's right - they could have found other ways to lose games. But Darnold and a few others are playing for their places, so probably want to win. So TIG and Williams get an opportunity to lose it late - and take it. Word is they are both on their bike the moment the season ends. Bonuses/due payments will no doubt be paid up."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"They might be tanking on purpose but I think that it would have been easier to have not stopped the drive a minute before rather than stop that and bank on LV getting the ball back and scoring with 13 seconds left. Either way, I hard Carr in my fantasy team so it worked well for me."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I know your mob didn't invent this phenomenon this season but that useless cսnt goodell really needs to do something about teams deliberately throwing games so as to manoeuvre a better draft place. it's against the spirit of the sport and makes a mockery of the draft process

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Even Derek Carr, the Raiders' QB, says he 'can't believe' the Jets called that play. I have to say, I think it's fucking disgraceful, tbh. It is cheating of sorts, because they are obviously doing it to gain an advantage over the Jaguars - who might otherwise draft Lawrence (which seems to be what this boils down to: a dangerous tactic at the best of times). But it also completely distorts in-game betting etc. I bet you some serious money was both won and lost by savvy gamblers on that play alone. It's wrong. Even though it's my team doing it - it's just plain wrong."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Anybody who thinks that the Jets are not tanking on purpose need only see that reckless call on 3rd and 10 in the 4th quarter against the Raiders! In the unusual position to win a game for the first time all season (a season in which, The Idiot Gase says they are not purposefully tanking) and they call 'that' play on 3rd and long?! An all-out blitz in which everybody bar the man-to-man coverage was committed to attacking the QB! On 3rd and 10?! It was basically the NFL equivalent of being 1-0 up in the last minute, with possession in Man Utd's half and smacking a 60 yarder backwards into your own net! And they are STILL claiming that they're not trying to lose. Hahahaha! I feel really sorry for Sam Darnold. Despite Gase being the worst NFL coach in the history of the game, Darnold still has talent. He's obviously playing for his place next season (thinking we'll draft Lawrence) and played well last night. Puts the team on the edge of its first victory for almost a year - and then Gregg Williams or Gase (both of whom signed to receive in-season bonuses this week - ahem!) call 'that' play?! What a clusterfuck my team is. It's a good job West Ham have been doing well, broadly speaking, this season. I'd be suicidal otherwise..."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
You'll never convince me that they didnt just intentionally give that play up. 13 seconds left and they give up a 40 yard bomb in single coverage and nobody deep.
