Yeah, I like the look of Ben Johnson at Detroit. But he's going to be the most coveted co-ordinator likely to move up in January - and many big franchises (including the Jets) will be after him. There's talk of Dallas spending silly Yankee money to land him.

More likely the Jets will end up with Detroit's defensive co-ordinator, Aaron Glenn, who has done a solid job for them under Dan Campbell. He's an ex-Jet pro-bowler, of course, and remains a big fan of the franchise. Many people think he's probably more likely to end up in New York than Johnson. He seems ready to step up, but I have no idea if he'd be a success. It would depend on who he appoints around him - and which GM oversees the whole shitshow.

Other being talked about include the usual suspects: Vrabel etc. Rex is still deluding himself! But I'd wait for a while because there will be the usual merry-go-round of HCs, OCs and DCs in the weeks after the season ends. The Jets have tended to thrive when they opt for an older, hard-bitten and grizzled fucker at HC (Parcells, Ewbank etc) with younger coaches around him (Belichick under Parcells, for example, before the betrayal!).

We all know the Jets are more than capable for pulling the trigger on a deal like that. But it’s more the Talkin Heads trying too steal a living. You look like being too far down the pecking order for a quality QB in the draft. Maybe you get someone in free agency too fill you over next season.? But reaching for Lawrence ain’t the solution.

No, if you really need to change I think you look elsewhere or use that good youngster in a bridge year, giving him a chance to shine. Your main priority should be getting the front office and coaching staff sorted first, before paying out another fortune for a QB

Unfortunately, because the last (current) "rebuild" was an empire built on sand, the Jets will now have to spend yet another two-year loop developing or identifying genuine talent in the trenches, which is where every good side should start. So I'd happily try out the kid Travis for a year at QB, providing that he is fit and strong enough to start next season.

The boring focus of the next off-season has to be sorting out the offensive line, which has been a shambles for a few years because the likes of Woody went all in on big-name skills positions like Rodgers, Adams, Lazard etc. You can't throw the ball, or run it, if you can't protect your QB or open up running lanes. So the dull focus has to be the 320lb monsters, and a proper centre, next year. Build a "you don't want to fuck with us" offensive line and run the ball again but with Travis at QB. I read this week that the sacked GM (Douglas) really wanted to do that but was overruled by the Rodgers-obsessed Woody.

And the D-line needs someone straight down the middle who actually pushes back the opponents o-line. We've had little penetration this season.

Unfortunately, Rex Ryan was right when he said the Jets' blocking has been atrocious and sub-professional. Bad coaching all round.

Lots of speculation that the Jets might trade for Trevor Lawrence if they do (as seems likely at this stage) part ways with Rodgers after the season. But most of the speculation comes from people in New York and they have clearly not been looking hard at where that would leave Jacksonville.

The Jags paid some huge upfront bonuses against their (current and future) salary cap when negotiating Lawrence's huge contract through to 2030. If another side came in for Lawrence, they'd get little of that money back. It would accelerate a cap charge spread over the next three or four seasons of around $130m extra and, reportedly, leave around $115m in dead money on the Jags' books. Bizarrely, they're in a position where keeping him makes more sense economically than moving on.

A buying side would have to be foolish to offer the Jags a way out of that, however highly they rated Lawrence. But then again, we are the Jets...

Finally, a stumbling win for the Jets at the weekend, albeit only against the Jags. All too late for Rodgers and Adams to save their seasons, and most likely won't save their Jets careers (not that they'll be bothered, which has been part of the problem).

Seen a few Jets fans moaning that we won, because it sets us back in the draft. As though that franchise is currently organised enough to know what it's doing in the draft! Exactly where we sit in the draft is FAR less important than making the right appointments at GM, HC, OC, DC, and elsewhere in January. A strong set of coaches, managers and scouts, who actually know what they're doing and haven't been over-promoted to their precise position...worth far more than three or four places up the draft board.

Sorry Joe, we have the Lions to face yet and can't allow any misfires, if we want an "easy" path in the playoffs. Having said that, we are capable of spoiling our own party, so it's not beyond our capabilities of losing to the Seahawks who are a very good team.

We face the Bears tomorrow night at home, which on paper should be an easy Vikings win but as we all know, games are not played on paper.

Yeah, he's definitely going to lose patience with the agents and hangers on, who are even worse at college level because there's an even bigger gulf between lack of talent and naked ambition. Would not be surprised if he recruits his son or someone else to deal with that. Imagine him in a room full of agents for 18-year-old kids - most of whom are not going to make it? He will lose his shit.
