"Taking to Twitter, the Italy international wrote: “Dear West Ham. “While my time in London didn’t go the way I had planned, some of my greatest life moments were made here. And for that I’m forever grateful Thank you to the players and staff for making me feel so welcome, and the fans for their continued support. “I will continue to support this fantastic club from home in Italy, and will be keeping in close touch with the lifelong friends I have made whilst in England Thank you for everything, Ciao.”"

"Hermit Tbf not many players play first team football at 18-20 age range not regularly anyway From what I can see in the last three seasons he’s scored 16 for sassuoloin serie A 21/22 12 for Genoa in serie A and cup 20/21 and 14 for Ascoli in serie B and cup So 41 in 3 seasons If you compare that to Broja who got 6 in the league or 9 overall and Chelsea’s wanted in excess of 30 mill. If you think the lad at villa Watkins that we were after had never played in the top flight and cost 30mill For 30mill in the current market you’re not going to get a player that has scored 16 goals plus consistently, if you look at Haller he only really had one good season before we paid 40mins plus. To put it into perspective Antonio has never got 16 league goals if somebody had tried to buy him in January when he had 8 goals which was a decent return which if he’d had kept up would of put him level with scamacca by the end of the season, at the age of 32 how much do you think we’d of wanted for him and if he was 23 how much would we want for him then?"

"I trust Who scored over Wikipedia. Also, Wikipedia is including goals scored in youth football which you wouldn't normally do when talking about a professional s stats. Would you be less impressed if it turns out Who scored is right and he's only scored 19 league goals in 5 seasons?"

"According to Wiki, Scamacca's career stats are 42 goals in 132 club appearances. 26 in 65 in Serie A, and 16 in 36 in Serie A for Sassulo. Not to meniont 8 in 5 in the Italian cup. That's pretty good going."

"Eerie Descent 11:29 Tue Jul 26 Happy to stand corrected but I’ve checked two sites which give his league goal total at 19 for his entire career. I don’t think that an average of less than 4 goals a season is that good for any striker let alone a 23 year old for £30 million. Me pointing that out doesn’t mean I don’t want him to be a success. I hope he becomes the best striker we’ve ever had, I’m just not that excited about it."

"angryprumphs 11:50 Tue Jul 26 What should I base it on? It’s not a lot of goals, I don’t think there’s anything controversial in pointing that out. That being said, we’ve signed him now so let’s hope it works out. I’m in his corner."

"Agree with you both. It's classic WHO. Crying out for 18 months for a new striker- any new striker. We are in for exactly the sort of player most have been saying we need, and instantly he's not good enough. It would be the same if it were Broja. If it were Lewandowski some would say he was over the hill."

"Before: what we need to do is sign young, hungry players before they get established, rather than picking up has-beens Now: why are we spending good money on someone who's not even proven in the Premier League?"

"I have seen such pessimism on this signing which is bizarre. We’ve been crying out for a striker, sign someone who has been called up and lauded by my the national Italy manager and yet some are picking holes. Wankers"

Hermit Road 11:14 Tue Jul 26 You are looking at 5 seasons for a 23 year old striker? Interesting choice of stats to base and opinion on?

"Hermit Road 11:14 Tue Jul 26 That's incorrect. He's scored 41 goals in the last 3 seasons, 16 of those last season, and he's only 23. Full Italian international. As a comparison, Joelinton was roughly the same age as him when Newcastle paid £40mil, and he'd scored 21 goals. Not sure what you expect for the money we've paid?"

"C&P BBC site ""The Hammers have now agreed personal terms with Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca and the 23-year-old is set to have a medical on Tuesday before completing his move from Sassuolo."" So, unless he's a crock he's our new striker"

Just looked at this blokes STATS. According to WhoScored he has scored 24 goals in 5 years. Interesting choice of striker to spend 30 million on.
