"Why do nearly all films need to be three or four fucking hours long these days? My basic problem with going to the cinema is that: A:My poor old bladder or arthritic hip won't make it B: people, particularly young people can't shut the fuck up for that long, and C: editors don't seem to stand up to directors and say 'you know that bit when you say you have to fly down to Florida to meet the mob there? The drive to the private airport, starting the plane, you getting on, a CGI of the plane flying through the clouds, the landing at a private airfield in Florida, getting out of the plane and into a car and driving to your meet at a discreet house somewhere in Florida is about 30 minutes long and as boring as fuck- let's bin it'. All us punters really want to see is an interesting film wrapped up in under two hours written tightly. It in itself is a gift and an art."

Boots I’m not a fan of constant action films. So that was good. I’m more of a John Le Carre slow burn type fan which is rare so this really ticked all my boxes. I think I said it wouldnt be everybodies cuppa.

"Manuel - Come across sites with info such as this but not sure if it's correct or just Hollywood rumours. ""The greed of the AMPTP studios and their refusal to make a deal with striking workers—specifically SAG-AFTRA members—has claimed another high-profile movie victim. Paramount and Skydance have bumped Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part Two all the way from June of next year to May 23, 2025. On top of that, Variety says the movie will be retitled, meaning it won’t be called Dead Reckoning Part Two, which means there will have been a Dead Reckoning Part One and that’s it."""

Talking about long films I saw Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 last night after receiving a freebie voucher from Prime. I must say Cruise does make a good action film and whilst it's probably not one of the best of the MI films still an enjoyable 2 hrs and 45 mins. Got to wait until 2025 for part 2 though from what I've read.

"Branded, after much hype the Mrs and I watched The Killer last night. To quote Catherine Tates nan character, what a load of fucking rubbish! First half hour was monotonous and boring, rest of the film was just very poor, a wasted opportunity in my mind as Fassbender is made for such roles Each to their own I guess"

I’ve possibly been harsh with our review as it’s not often we go to the pictures but easily scoresese”s worst film. Having said the last film I watched in a cinema was three billboards………… The last brilliant film I’ve seen. An absolute classic.

"Went to the pictures with herself to watch killers of the flower moon. It was a struggle at almost three and half hours.well shot obviously but an absolute anti climax. Perhaps I’ve missed something as it has rave reviews, but my idea of going to the pictures is to be entertained which in some cases also leaves you interested/wondering. This film didn’t fall into that category,we left shrugging shoulders and looking forward to an early ruby."

You should watch the original Dutch version of the Vanishing from 1988. It's much better and doesn't have the tacked on happy ending that the American one does.

"Yep, seen both and both very good, particularly The Vanishing, remember when I first watched that it was in my head for a good while after. Gas stations in the middle of nowhere are absolute havens for potential kidnappers, not a place to let little ones out of your sight!"

"Manuel, Yep saw it that was quite decent. A similar one was Breakdown in 1997 with Kurt Russell also quite good and probably the best of the three The Vanishing in1993 with Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland."

"Saw The Plane with Gerard Butler. Over the top but in a good way, thought it was an enjoyable leave your brain at the door romp. Retribution on Netflix with Liam Neeson is ok. Again easy watching action fayre. Making my way through the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films again and loving them. Haven't seen them since I was a kid and at anything between an hour and an hour and 15 minutes they are a great filler in the evening."

Watched the Palme d'Or 2022 winner Triangle of Sadness the other night. Thought is was excellent. Very thought provoking satirical black comedy. Very sad the stunning Chalbri Dean died only a few months before it was released. Londoner Harris Dickinson is one to look out for especially since his role in Where The Crawdads Sing. Another great movie.
