"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"TM - yes, I'm minded to agree. I don't believe this shit about ""quarterback whisperers"". A good HC, OC and QB coach should be able to deal with and improve a good, young QB through hard work and good judgement. All the rest is puff and bluster. It's about putting a good coaching team in place. Belichick has always recognised that in Boston - hence he went out of his way to return McDaniels as OC to keep Brady ticking away (not that Brady needs a huge amount of guidance on that - he's similar to Manning in that respect) etc."

the only quarterback whisperer was joe gibbs who won superbowls with three different quarterbacks

"The simple fact is that the Jets had a great opportunity after they sacked Todd Bowles to rebuild and move the franchise on to a new level as Brady and Belichick began to consider their retirements from the Patsies. They already had an excellent young QB on the roster around whom they could build a side - which is an unusually big starting point. They had a well-regarded Super Bowl-winning coach who desperately wanted the job and was on the market - Mike McCarthy. Instead they believed all the myths about Gase being some sort of ""Quarterback Whisperer"" because he once carried Peyton Manning's coffee as OC in Denver (Manning made almost every call that offense produced). Not only that, because there was competition for the Jets HC role, an unusual state of affairs, they effectively handed Gase the GM job, too (as part of his negotiation package). He brought in his very own ""yes"" man to look like a GM at meetings. Now, just a few short months down the line, we've completely wasted that opportunity to rebuild the franchise. Poor draft picks, shit big money deals for under-used players (Bell, Mosley) and the worst play-book I've seen in the NFL since Rich Kotite. Gase has traded away a fine DT, and alienated his own team captain and future pro-bowler to the point where he's hinting he wants out. And we're 1-6. Welcome to the new dawn. It looks a lot like the old dawn, except worse and there's a deluded frog-eyed man-child in charge. ;-)"

"Crystal, spot on: we haven't had a decent edge rusher since Calvin Pace under Rex. The idiot Gase drafted Jachai Polite with our high third-rounder this year - he was a complete bust and got waived within a few months. This lot couldn't tell the difference between an edge rusher and an edge trimmer."

"""This really has got Adam Gase's fingerprints all over this now. He's really controlling this franchise. I know there's a general manager in name, and in name only, we haven't seen nor heard from him at all. This is Adam Gase's team. This is the mess that he's created.""ù Boomer Esiason, ex-Jets QB."

"the cսnt bruce allen has finally decided, with a day to go (yesterday), to try and trade trent willilams. i hope we get no takers as it should have been done weeks ago. they may as well close/move the franchise because snyder is going nowhere until he dies (currently 55)"

"Seems like for as long as i've been following the NFL properly the Jets have always had good D tackles but never seem to have anything resembling an edge rusher which is what you need to pair them with. Look at Dante fowler starting to have a breakout season with the Rams because everyone is focusing on Donald. very rare for a DT to rack up large number of sacks unless they are a true all time great, pass rush needs to come from the outside where you're more often matched up 1 on 1"

"And, of course, there is now a chance that the same problem faces Quinnen Williams: he'll get double-teamed on most plays now and will struggle to hold down that high-pick tag. There is no logic to what the Jets have done. But the supine NFL media have just swallowed the spin. As per usual. ""Oh, it's OK, Jets fans, because he wasn't getting the stats and you get two picks anyway."" Fucking Washington Post! ;-)"

"Not quite so, Crystal. He's still a fine DT. The only reason why he has not been as productive since 2016 is because every side in the league double-teamed him in 2017 and 2018, because they knew the Jets had little else to offer on that defensive line (until they drafted QW). So his ""production stats"" fell off a cliff. But he's still largely the same player. The Giants have got a bargain because our own stupid coaching staff have come in and probably only read the stats rather than assessed him properly. In the Spring, Jets fans were told the whole point of drafting Quinnen Williams was to give Len some support on the defensive line, and free him up a little. Now they've drafted him away for peanuts. Absolute idiots run the Jets at the moment. The Giants will have a strong front line now - LW alongside Big Snacks (another of our finds under Rex) is a daunting prospect for any centre."

"Life's great being a Dolphins fan, we've become that team that if they made the ""You Only Move Twice""ù episode of The Simpson's now Scorpio of the Globex Corporation would buy The Miami Dolphins for Homer at the end of the episode. ""Awwwwww, the Miami Dolphins""ù"

"Leonard Williams has never really come close to living up to his potential after he was billed as arguably the best player int he draft and the Jets drafted Quinnen Williams very high this year to presumably replace him. Leonard is int he last year of his deal i believe and wills till be demanding big money so to ship him out for anything in a lost season seems like a good move if they had no intent of signing him to a new contract. From what i read the Giants were the only team interested in trading for him which is why his value seems so low, the Jets had no leverage. What i don't really understand is why the Giants would make the trade, DT is the only decent spot on their defence with Snacks Harrison in there and they're going nowhere this year either so will; have him for half a year before trying to negotiating with a player hitting free agency who probably thinks he's worth alot more than he actually is. At least he only had to move all his stuff down the hall to another locker room ;)"

"""The Jets are severely testing the patience of their notoriously loyal fans - they've just traded Len Williams, a very fine DT and former #6 overall pick, to the Giants for two mid-round picks"" Sounds like the sort of move the Dave's used to specialise in as they did when selling the Footballer of the Year to Haringey"

"Fucking treachery! The Jets are severely testing the patience of their notoriously loyal fans - they've just traded Len Williams, a very fine DT and former #6 overall pick, to the Giants for two mid-round picks. Absolute disgrace of a deal. To the fecking Giants, too! Absolute disgrace of a franchise/ownership at the moment. Gase can fuck off tonight. Woody Johnson and his baby oil firm can fuck off tomorrow. TM - I'm beginning to think that the Skins have got some serious competition for worst-run franchise in the NFL. We are an absolute shambles at the moment. There is even a whisper that our team captain, Jamal Adams, might demand a move at the end of the season. He's a top-five safety and deserves better than he's getting in New York at the moment. That long-standing comparison between West Ham and the Jets continues..."
