"Haven‚Äôt read this thread for a while so had a scan through. This review in particular is up there with Mark Kermode and Barry Norman. Shit film, cracking review. ‚ÄúSurfaceAgentX2Zero 12:29 Tue Mar 7 Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022) Banshees is a tedious Vincent Van Gogh biopic transposed to Oirland so they can have lots of pretty Oirishy scenery and Oirishy music played in dimly-lit Oirishy pubs. Swap ears for fingers, add a wicked copper fucking his John Mills in Ryan's Daughter son up the arse and MickTimPat's your uncle. It's a pile of cսnt aimed cynically and squarely at winning an uncontroversial arty Oscar. The Irish count as honorary blacks, so there'll be no squealing on that account, to be sure‚Äú"

"Watched Everything Everywhere all at once the other day. Was definitely my sense of humour so I had a good few laughs and it was a clever attempt at threading nietzsche, multiverse theory and Buddhism into an entertaining story. Not sure I’d put it up there as a great film though so an Oscar would be too much. Worth a watch though"

Manuel 3:52 Wed Mar 8 The new Luther film has been panned by those who have already seen it. I felt it went a series too far on TV.

When I was working in Lyon in 2001 I used to use the vhs video dispensing machines. Pretty sure they never had them in the UK as they would get vandalised. Aslo in Stockholm around 2005 they had DVD dispenders.

"I still use this shop from time to time, fantastic place I’ve used for 20 years. Fuck knows how they’re still in business but I suspect they are all living on their trust funds, fair play to them. https://www.20thcenturyflicks.co.uk/ Working in a video shop is my dream job, I still watch about one film a day on average.. love it"

Ha Ha... yeah looking back was pretty lax... one form of ID ... meant to bring your membership card in with you but that went out the window so it was a case a lot of the time looking up members to allow then to rent... wasn't so bad if it was me my Mum or step dad doing it as we obviously knew a lot of the customers... but some of our staff boo boo'd big time... a few times after the films had not been brought back after a week you'd knock on what you thought was the customers door to be confronted by a 90 year old woman... bit off asking her where the 5 adult films that had been rented out under her address... Babyface?? Pretty Peaches?? Is that a how to cook video??

"Swiss, yeah read about that. She didn't seem to go for the handsome ones, I might have had a chance! Sold - I remember John in his shop used to check all the videos late evening as people just sent the box back without the tape, or a wrong tape, that sort of thing that you will know only too well. One night he checked one and it wasn't right so he just put it in the video recorder he had in the shop just to see what it was. He watched films in the shop to pass time when no custom was about. It was a rather erotic soft porn of a lady in the shower. She looked familiar and to his horror he realised it was the customer. He called, left as innocent a message as he could on her answer phone about the missing film. Two days later a Range Rover pulls up. a little boy runs in. quick exchange of tapes as mummy was in the car and John ever saw her again!"

Zico… don’t know mate… you’d think they’d be worthless but then again 20 years ago we was saying the same about vinyl. I lost count of the amount of tapes that I had to repair… splice out a few seconds that had been chewed up in someone’s machine… lot of time the customer would just come in and leave the whole VCR with us whilst I had to take the bloody thing apart just to save the tape. Some of the vids were £50.00+ which back then was a fortune… so you can imagine it goes out a couple of times and gets stuck in a machine!! Amazing really we made money with the mark up when we was putting them out daily rentals from £1-00 to £1-50 a night but we made an absolute fortune… went from almost poverty to a 5 bedroom house in Thorpe Bay (backing on to Thorpe Hall golf course) in the space of 2 years… was a great few years until satellite reared it’s ugly head.
