"Ha ha, yeah Grace Kelly is part of the reason I can watch Rear Window time and time again! Wonder if that would have a woke warning on it if shown again! Sold - I heard that some of the original videos, certainly those that shops had are worth a few bob these days? That true? I assumed videos now were worthless."

"zico... yeah seems like a lifetime ago now... still can't get my head around having a platform that now you pay £11 a month you can have at the click of a remote every single Disney classic film ever made... we used to have to rent from Disney and Warner Brothers... around a tenner a month... and these were for shit films.. no classics but shit like Blackbeards Ghost, That Darn cat and the Black Hole... for I'd say 4 years it was Massive... weekends literally half our stock out... and when we had the bad snow in 86(?) those two weeks I'd swear almost everything was out... bloke even hired How to Pass your Driving test... Oh he'd passed his test he just wanted something to watch !! Oh when we started off we done a nice range of under the counter stuff... that's how I ended up with more MATES than anyone else.... SWT"

"Rear Window is very good. Hollywood heart-throb James Stewart as an action-hero photographer more interested in gazing out the window and chatting shit with his massively gay detective mate than in shagging an in-her-prime Grace Kelly, who is absolutely gagging for it. He'd clearly have been happier watcher her shag someone else. Now THAT was arty."

"Northern Sold 2:45 Tue Mar 7 That's what I miss. We had a video library right at the bottom of our schools drive. Over the years I became good friends with the owner, god rest his soul, and I can honestly say in all the years I knew him he never once gave me a bad film. The only thing he wouldn't advise on was comedy as it's so personal. Those days went with the youngsters working at Blockbuster who generally didn't have a clue and now you trawl through Netflix etc with no real idea on what's good or not on the new stuff. My mate Steve used to love a ""comedy"" called The Heavenly Kid. Awful film. John at the shop said to me "" Your mate could come in here and look at 1000 titles and still take out the crappiest film there!"" My top three favourites of all time are probably Hitchcock's Rear Window, Back to the Future and Jaws. Probably seen better films than the second two but hose three I can still watch over and over. Rear Window is to me a masterpiece although others may say Vertigo for instance was better. As you say film is very personal."

Swiss‚Ķ our family owed a video shop in the 80‚Äôs‚Ķ I was manager for about 6 years‚Ķ I watched everything and anything as would have to suggest films to customers who were undecided‚Ķ didn‚Äôt get too many chuck their VHS and Betamax‚Äôs at my head on returning them saying what a bunch of arty load of old cսnt‚Ķ so it was probably more a case of me listening to the Style Council‚Ķ.

Surface That's adecent selection there. Didn't you recommend The Swimmer.? Absolute classic. I stopped watching Banshees half way through as it bored me shitless and I thought why waste my time. Soldo gone all arty since he discovered Wolf Alice.

"Ten of my favourite movies, some arty, some not: Some Like it Hot - not arty at all Once Upon a Time in America - very arty Once Upon a Time in the West - very arty The Good the Bad and the Ugly - not really all that arty, but I loves me a bit of Leone The Godfather - very arty Star Wars - not arty Goodfellas - a bit arty The Searchers - arty One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - very arty Get Carter - not arty eaoe The list will be different tomorrow of course, probably in five minutes when I remember things like Nolan's Batman films, lots of John Ford westerns, It's a Wonderful Life etc, etc, etc So, I don't mind a bit of arty. What I hate is when a director tries to hit you over the head with it. n.b. Citizen Kane and fucking Banshees. And Nomadland. And other shit."

"In all seriousness everyone has different tastes and thank god they do otherwise life would be fucking boring… I have had raised eyebrows galore come my way when I have guffawed at peoples fav film and Shawshank Redemption comes up… I found it one of the biggest pretentious films ever… but saying that I watched it again a few months ago and enjoyed it more than I did the first time… but for me it’s not even in the same ball park as a Lawrence of Arabia, Godfather etc… oh and don’t get me on that new Top Gun film…. Fucking hell… what a mess (yet loads LOVED IT)…… and that was me sitting in a IMAX… however I will give Cruise his dos have a very nice P51 Mustang… Anyway as I say it would be boring if we was all whacking one off at the same films…"

"Bruuuno As the director of Banshees, I'm thrilled you enjoyed it. I think it's so important that cinema as a medium has a message, don't you? I didn't want to put the pretty Irish tart in it, but the studios... you know. The compromises one has to make for ones art. Did I mention that I'M A FUCKING AUTEUR? So the plebs can just fuck off, sit in their ghastly pub, tug their forelocks and fiddle with their dreadful flat caps."

"Banshees is a tedious Vincent Van Gogh biopic transposed to Oirland so they can have lots of pretty Oirishy scenery and Oirishy music played in dimly-lit Oirishy pubs. Swap ears for fingers, add a wicked copper fucking his John Mills in Ryan's Daughter son up the arse and MickTimPat's your uncle. It's a pile of cսnt aimed cynically and squarely at winning an uncontroversial arty Oscar. The Irish count as honorary blacks, so there'll be no squealing on that account, to be sure."
