"What a fantastic place (in the sun) only got a few hours here, would have loved to spend a couple of days."

"You'd have to travel there, and unless you've been, you'll be exploring the place."

I like travelling and exploring. What's the appeal of the Falklands?

"I can see the appeal. But I like travelling/exploring. I guess if you're completely unadventurous and don't like leaving home, then there's little appeal."

"OTB. You don’t get off the boat in Antarctica, you spend a few hours in paradise bay (google images for pics) I’m guessing you are looking at expedition cruises, they are 8k plus and on much smaller boats."

"Would also love to visit St.Helena. Tristen de Cunha is (I think) another week or 2 away by sea, and has something like 300 inhabitants sharing 7 surnames. The way they speak is similar to 17th century English in terms of grammar etc. Don't think either place has a Wetherspoons which would ne a downside though"

"Yeah a lot easier now they built the airport there, but I think you have to fly to SA and then get a flight to St Helena from there?"

"Wow, that's LOADS cheaper than anything I've seen before, although that's not exactly an exhaustive search as anything I've seen has been insanely expensive. How much time are you getting in Antarctica? Cough - I didn't bother saying before, but St. Helena is the island that's top of my list. Much easier to get there these days! Very cool that you've got family from there."

"I had a few good mates go to the Falklands and unfortunately a couple never came back, fortunately though they were Argentinian so swings and roundabouts eh !"

"On the ball Yes on a cruise, it starts in buenoes aires for 3 nights B&B then a 14 day cruise to the antarctic peninsula via tierra del feugo and a couple of other countries. And back via the Falklands. Was about 3.5k including extra legroom seats and parking at LGW. This is an all inclusive package but other options are available The travel center booked it but trailfinders can also put something together- Norwegian Star is the ship I'm on."

I remember those - probably long extinct. The British confectionary market is a notoriously harsh environment

"Wow! That's brilliant! Why only a few hours? Are you on a cruise? Very jealous. A trip to Tierra del Fuego, The Falklands (and other 'local' islands) and Antarctica is very high on my list. Cruises are ludicrously expensive though."

"One of my uncles is buried out there in Stanley - always intended to get over there and pay my respects but couldn't drive my work over to South America or have the spare time between contracts. Too old to face up to the journey now, I suspect."

"Would love to go there but agree, need several days / a week to do it properly. My son was there for the 40th anniversary and did ‘the’ yomp in three days… he loved it!"
