Club plan to make player lower his pretensions and accept Everton, Nottingham Forest or West Ham move
By Sean Lunt
Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz is not interested in a move to Everton, Nottingham Forest of West Ham United, but the Italian club plan to work on changing that stance.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who report that Luiz has so far refused all offers put to him as he wants to join a big club this summer.
The newspaper reports that Juventus want to get Luiz’s situation sorted before next week, when he is due to return to the squad. He was supposed to return this week but failed to turn up in a shock move that burned plenty of bridges at the Italian club.
They’ve now agreed on a return date for next week, but Juventus would like to find a solution to his future before then.
They met with the player’s agents yesterday and found a ‘sort of clarification’ between the parties. They intend to separate this summer, but Luiz is proving troublesome on that front.
The midfielder has suitors in the Premier League, but he only wants to join a top club. Thus Everton, West Ham and maybe Nottingham Forest are not interesting too him for the time being. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side can offer European football, so it seems that gives them a slight chance.
Juventus intend to try and change that stance and make it clear to the player and his entourage that they need to ‘lower the pretensions’ if they are to get the move they’re pushing for. In other words, they will tell Luiz to get real and consider the Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham options.
The Italian club want €40m after spending €50m last year. Reports elsewhere have suggested they’ll accept a loan deal so long as they’re guaranteed that figure.
So far there been surveys from England and a couple of important proposals from Saudi Arabia, but Luiz has rejected all as he wants to join a big club this summer.
