"Dont know it it has been mentioned before as I don't frequent this thread but a shout out for ""The Patriot"" which is free on Prime. Slightly off the wall and black humored US/CIA/Spy thriller, which has the bonus of an Essex connection as there is part of the plot and some scenes set around Jaywick would you believe and Jaywick Sands FC obvs based on the West Ham!"

"I'm watching the third series of The Handmaid's Tale. I put off watching it for ages, because I love the book and assumed they would butcher it, but actually they've made a reasonable fist of it. It's not bad. I like the fact that the contemporary setting and tech makes it even more relatable and they've resisted what must have been a strong temptation to ladle on anti right wing politics (Attwood can spin a good yarn at times, but she's a bit of a tit). Absolutely loving the back stories/flashbacks (except the mawkish ones of June singing to or gazing with adoration at her kid) It's far from perfect. In the space of about 2 years worth of the story Offred has gone from being extremely frightened of putting the merest toe out of line to physically attacking one of the commanders to openly defying her second commander and interfering in his relationship with his wife. And there have been no consequences. It's a stretch, to say the least. It doesn't make sense when compared to the source material or even its own first series. Also Elizabeth Moss leaves me cold at the best of times, but I have seen more than enough close-ups of her face where its flesh is lumbering around in all sorts of contortions and undulations presumably representing some inner mental turmoil. I struggle to decode facial expressions and to me it just looks like fleshy lava gyrating (you've no idea how silly you all look) Would be nice to have some narration at this point for the bewildered Spergs. There are some terrific actors in this. Notably the woman who plays her best friend (she was the only thing worth watching Orange is the New Black for) and Emily, the rebellious lesbian Handmaid with the STUNNING blue eyes. Best performance has to be the woman who plays Serena Joy (an absolute master class)"

Big Timber on Netflix. Normally these fly on the wall documentaries are contrived rubbish but on this one the owner of the logging company is off his head he is eccentric to the core

Two more complaints: 1) why is everything so dark? Often I can't make out what's going on in a scene. 2) that modern film-making trope of having a character who is using a torch shine it DIRECTLY into the camera lens. Absolutely infuriates me even time.

I'm the same these days. Got so used to it now that if I can't get subtitles for something then I probably won't bother watching.

"I much prefer subtitles, so thanks for that tip, Nagel. I didn't know that. These days I have to put the subtitles on modern English-speaking series and films. I'm not sure why that is. I think it is either poor sound mixing/music too loud or modern actors mumbling their lines. When I watch programmes and films from the 90s and older, I don't need subtitles. I think a lot of it is the actors. I watched a series of Line of Duty with Thandie Newton. I could fully understand every syllable she uttered, but the rest of the cast were mumbly buggers."

"ray winstone 12:09 Wed Jul 7 Subtitles are available for it as well. They've just made what is apparently an awful dub the default setting. They do that for quite a lot of shows on Netflix now, at least ones that they produce themselves."

We’re watching the serpent on Netflix. 3 episodes in so far it’s good. Few tense scenes.
