Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Yeah it does rile me fella.... yeah I understand artistic licence... but fuck me don't rewrite history... it drives me mad... Waterloo (1970) is a brilliant and pretty accurate description of what happened.... certainly never had old' Boney on a horse flying into the British squares with his sabre flashing...... he had piles... he could barely stand never alone ride Marengo on a charge.
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"NS, You’re obviously far more clued up on the historical facts than me,I could like you easily be inquisitive to know more as my knowledge on such matters are limited at a push. Hats off. As a film to watch the time flew by really enjoyed it unlike like the flowery moon cinamatic repepertive endurance. Each to their own I spose."

Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"jfk... I thought total opposite ... I was really looking forward to Napoleon ... ever since I was a young lad I have been massively interested in the the Napoleonic Wars ... have visited Waterloo... seen the film 100 of times... same with Master and Commander... have read copious books, watched documentaries... so I am pretty clued up... which is what fucked me off with Ridley Scott completely re-writing history... he did not have to do it... it's a BRILLIANT story alone... you just had to retell it.... and his response to Historians of `well you wasn't fucking there' does not wash for me.... it was just a huge self indulgent jackanory mess for me... give me the Di caprio film any day of the week"
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Watched Napoleon earlier thought it was very good even though almost three hours(paused reluctantly for a shit tidley takeaway half way trough as herself insisted)long. Miles better than killers of the flower moon shit that I got dragged along to the pictures to watch.

"I've just read that they're making ‘THE NAKED GUN’ reboot (surprise surprise another reboot), coming out next year. It looks like HOLLYWOOD doesn't want to involve the writers or director of the original, so you know it's going to be extremely shit."

Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Watched Zone of Interest last night (on the box)... I'm with you Chim... certainly played on my mind... the sound editing was superb... that constant background... mechanical sound.. brilliantly done.... very uneasy viewing and sometimes the best horrors are not what you see... very very clever. Interesting reading up about the Hoess family after... old Rudy had a bit of a climbdown at the N'burg trial... knew he was a bit of a cսnt and apologised for his general cuntishness... where as his missus fucked off to the US... died in washington DC in the 90's IIRC
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"""Everything coming out is a prequal, sequel, reboot or remake nowadays."" I guess that's probably because those things don't need to build an audience from scratch, and there's not enough cinemagoers these days for producers to risk spending a big budget on something new which could well be a financial disaster. With sequels and the like it's a lot easier to pre-sell distribution rights and have a lot of the budget covered before they even start filming."

"I guess it's not for everyone Manip and won't have enough skinny naked dead people bulldozed into holes, but personally I thought it was a masterpiece. It's strange that the second time I saw it was with my brother and I realised (for the first time) that it appears that there's not a lot going on and some people (including my brother) wouldn't 'get' it and think it's shit. I was too busy trying to peep over the walls and through open doors to find it boring, just quietly horrifying. My brother came out and to his credit said that he thought it was brilliant."

"Just got back from finding out The Zone of Interest wasn't very interesting. Gave it an hour, nothing happened, so left. Shit. swt"
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"Lee Trundle - You are so right. I miss my old mate who ran a video shop, who knew every customers tastes and I never had a bad film from him. Only thing he didn't advise on was comedy. I think half the problem is there isn't original writing anymore and the days of many films being adapted from books seems long gone. Many of my favourites come from adaptations from the likes of Alistair Maclean, Frederick Forsyth, John Le Carre, John Grisham and Ian Fleming of course."

"I know it's been brought up in here before, but literally everything coming out is a prequal, sequel, reboot or remake nowadays. There's very little originality."

Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"How has this fallen from the first page? I've been a busy boy with my film watching lately and saw (again) the fantastic 'The Zone of Interest' at the cinema (again!), The Holdovers and American Fiction. All of those are well worth watching if you value craft, screenwriting and an ability for you to to look at things from a completely different perspective than your own. After that it's just slim pickings as there's no need for Hollywood to release anything decent because those films are good shots for making the Oscars. Anything else great now will be forgotten until the next Oscars in a year's time which is pointless to the cunts who have to look at their phones 3 times during a film."

"The Holdovers is really good, I really like Giamatti anyway so I suppose that helped with my enjoyment. Hopefully it wins best picture, as usual most of the films look shit."

"Manip 12:13 Thu Jan 18 I've seen The Zone Of Interest and didn't find it a particularly tough film to watch. However, like all great art it stayed with me and became more haunting as the days went by. I can't wait to see it again."

Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Really enjoyed The Holdovers & Poor Things recently Expect Paul Giamatti & Emma Stone will pick up the Best Actor/Actress Oscars with Giamatti beating Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer I see there has been a lot of bleating that the Director & star of Barbie havent been nominated ... ITS A PATRIACHAL CONSPIRACY as it was the leading box office film of the year Understand Avatar was the top box office film of 2022 & dont think James Cameron got a Best director nomination
