NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Payton wasn't agile? he pioneered some of the hurdling, jumping over defenders near the line. of course people have different opinions, toughest will always be Jim Brown but then you look at his size, like Riggins, they had a right for defenders to bounce off them. Walter was average size yet was as strong as I've seen"

"Agree, Sanders was a beast, just a shame he had a shit Detroit team behind him"

"Both good calls, TM. But I have to go with Barry Sanders. That guy was from another planet altogether. A one-man team. Reactions, agility and changes of direction that we have never seen before or since. Shame the Lions were total shite in every other department!"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"I wont start a greatest running back debate but like Elway, my favourite will always be Walter Payton. closely followed by The Diesel defences just lack the leaders of the past. yes, you get freaks of nature like JJ Watt, but where are the Singletarys, Lott's, Taylors, Manleys, Reggie Whites, Darrell Greens? the players now do too much talking"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Haha! Don't think about the missed bets, Grump: you'll go nuts. You gotta' let 'em go. Yeah, agree with you about defenses not being allowed to be so brutal these days. On the whole, it's a good thing of course - but it has taken some of the appeal out of the game. Like Cough said, no more Monsters of the Midway, no NYSE, no PPEs. I'll whisper it, as I know you don't want to hear it, but Seattle has got close in the past few years. But shhhh..."
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"They're not allowed to be as brutal nowadays. And Sherman and every other seahawk are huge fucking cunts!!! And there's gurley with their first TD. I need to start gambling again, missing out on fortunes! And saving a fortune on the rest of the shite I back."

"Where are the Steel Curtains, Purple People Eaters, Monsters of Midway and the NY Sack Exchange?"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Yep, fewer ""characters"" these days - many more robots. Phenomenal athletes, but 'roid-riven robots. I like Sherman at Seattle, though. I shouldn't, but I do. He's good value, as well as a first-class player."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"I get tear-y eyed when I think of the sack exchange. And then I remember that those guys would tear the heads off their mothers if it got them a sack, and I buck my ideas up. They were phenomenal. And nuts."
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"To be fair I did like the New York Jets sack exchange with Joe Klecko, Gastineau and Lyons even though I was a bit of a Dolphin fan then"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Oi! Ken O'Brien for the Jets, too! (Why the fuck did the Jets pass on Marino with the 24th pick, and instead choose O'Brien?! So, Marino had a bad knee - he never ran anywhere in his life anyway!) Btw, six QBs drafted in the first round in 1983 - the other was Todd Blackledge of Kansas City. Quite a draft class."
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"That draft that saw Marino and Elway also produced Tony Eason and Jim Kelly, a phenomenal draft for QBs"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Alright, I'll tempt madness by adding a contribution to the GOAT debate. All the names mentioned so far were incredible - so you have to ask what marks out somebody who might be the ""greatest""? The answer is subjective, of course But for me, I think of the man you would pick to lead your team on the final drive of a game, from inside your own five yard line, when you're down by a score. Montana, Marino, Young, Favre, Unitas, Bradshaw, Rodgers, Manning, Brady - all amazing QBs. But how many times did John Elway face that very situation described above and win key games? He even did it in a Championship game, with ""The Drive"". Too good under pressure. Even better under pressure. So for me, it's Elway."
