NFL (since 2016)

"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"My only concern about Barkley at the Giants is the dire need to get him some protection. He's carrying the ball so well, and Manning is throwing so badly, behind a poor O-line, that he's going to get a lot of work - and with that will come a lot of big hits on him because of his strength and style. He;s already the go-to guy on the ground and in the air (OBJ excepted: although he's in poor form). He's also so good at breaking the first tackle, that he's often still upright and dragging a defender with him into the second or third tackles. That makes him a slowing-but-standing target, and easier to put big hits on - even if those hits come at the end of long runs. He got licked a couple of times against the Eagles, because he was literally dragging Jenkins along the floor with him. He can't take those hits every week for six seasons or more in the NFL. That O-line and those receivers need to work harder to help him at the end of runs."

"Yeah, agree on both Sanders and Brown: both extraordinary, even amongst the big name running backs in history. If you could design a running back, you'd design something damn close to Barry Sanders, in my view. This kid Barkley has a long way to go of course - he's literally played a handful of NFL games. But I haven't seen that sort of raw talent since Sanders. Giants desperately need the top-class QB to replace a declining Manning next draft. But the way they're going, they'll be near the top of the board anyway."

Barry Sanders is without doubt the greatest RB of the modern era. Jim Brown was before most of us were born. Both Todd Gurley and Saquon Barkley are both very special. Just not that special yet. As for the Giants. Seems the front office had given Eli this season to see if there's anything left in the tank.(There ain't.!) So it seems to be. Get a high draft pick next spring. And hopefully no one gets too beat up before new year. Go G Men.

"Told ya all about Saquon well ahead of the draft. Best young running back to enter the NFL since Sanders. He's unbelievable, but those Giants need to get him some protection. He chewed up 230 of the Giants' 400 yards against the Eagles, but his side got walloped. He took some big hits, too. Usually after some big gains. This guy seems to have a lot of everything. There was one 9-yard rush where he leapt over two defensive players (at different times) in the crowded centre of the field, once while going sideways. The guy is almost unstoppable at the moment - but you worry about his longevity behind that line. They don't do much to help him or keep him healthy. What pisses me off the most, is that Saquon is a huge Jets fan and wanted to join Gang Green. But we drafted behind the Giants and desperately needed a QB. Which we got - a decent one, too."

"PP had Jeffrey and Barkley to both get a TD at 5/1 last night. Obviously I didn't do it. Even though the Rams are harmless and not filth like the Seahawks, Burnsy knows I don't like dishing out too many compliments to them still because of him and Gurley really is on a different planet to any other running backs currently out there. cսnt!"

"No you're right. He looks better. He's looking more like some sort of Barry Sanders at the moment, making so much happen with the shocking protection and blocking he's getting, compared to playing in a powerhouse offense like the Chargers."

"Bit disingenuous and backhanded to say the only reason he's got such numbers is because the rest of the team is shit so therefore he throws it a lot. It's not like they are always having to sling it because they are coming from behind in games and have no option. I'd also say the reason they are pass first is because he's such a brilliant and accurate passer. Even if you're chucking it 50 times a game you don't rack up numbers like him in yardage, completions and touchdowns unless you're an exceptional, exceptional player. I think he deserves far more credit than that, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't like the Saints."

"That's kind of what I'm saying, Brees has had such bad defences for a lot of years that he has had to throw the ball far more than normal which is why he always racked up so many completions and yards."

I'd say then that Brees has had to carry his team far more than someone like Brady then. Would the Saints go 11-5 with a backup quarterback? No they wouldn't. More like 5-11. Which frankly just elevates him further.

"Brees is absolutely brilliant when he has everything just right, for example there's a very noticeable difference when he plays on the road vs his nice dome in NOLA. He's also been on some teams with some truly terrible defences meaning he has had to throw the ball a lot more just to keep them in games, I saw a stat this morning saying he's played in 3 less games than Brady but has thrown the ball 500 times more than him"

"Obviously the guys plays in a dome in an absolute pass happy attack with a very clever offensive coach, but still, for an unheralded 'little guy' he's surpassed all expectations, taken a perennial losing team (as you say Grumpster- not even with loads of other talent around him) and made them very relevant and is up there in stats with the all time greats. I know the Chargers have had success with Rivers, but I wonder if they are sometimes kicking themselves."

"Annoyingly I used to back Ingram religiously for the Saints, but had virtually forgotten about him this season due to Kamara He been injured? Brees has been quality considering he's not always had a team around him like some of the other QB's have had."
