NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Crystal that is a fair point but is easily matched by our success in the 1966 World Cup Final. And you're right, it is a fledgling NFL thread annual tradition."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Hermit sure we had this same debate only a year or so ago. Eagles won a superbowl very recently. Therefore cannot be compared to west ham anymore

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"The Eagles had a jail cell in their old stadium, much like the one at Upton Park in the old West Stand. Like us, there was a good reason for having one. If you've been to Philadelphia it was/is as much like the Eastend as any US city. Solidly working class, love their boxing, and plenty of ways to buy and sell things that the criminal justice system frowns upon."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Even though I'm a huge Jets fan, I really enjoyed the games at Soldier Field. Most of the Bears fans were so used to getting walloped by the likes of Green Bay, and so self-effacing and cynical, that they were expecting to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory even with less than a minute to go! On the way out, I heard one their fans call his missus and say: ""Darlin', gonna be later than usual tonight because we went and fuckin' won, which means I owe the guys more beer than usual..."""

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Not that these things matter too much, but I'd say the Bears comparison is pretty accurate. Been to Soldier Field to watch games - and their fans are very much like ours. Cynical, humorous and passionate - and a mostly working-class/blue collar bunch. They also don't expect to win much. Probably the best comparisons (not that any comparisons are that great) are the Bears and the Jets (biggest city's big/working-class side, passionate fans, never win much but had their heyday in the 1960s, all about the craic etc). Too many fly-by-nights within the 49ers, Seagulls (!) and any newbie franchise to be considered West Ham (no offence to any of those fans on here...)"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Joe I don't and can't. Saints are relatively new ((slightly older than the Seahawks) They had no success (winning season) for a long while. Have been mediocre to near the top of the league for 15 or so years, only winning something in the late 00's. Hence the Bears."
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I'm sure every one of us who follows a different team can make a claim that theirs is the West Ham of the NFL Except for the Cowboys, who are just cunts who think they're better than they are. Definitely the Tottenham of the NFL"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"If the Super Bowl is a cup and you take into account the compression of time in the NFL as compared to football, you could maybe say West Ham are the Chicago Bears. Last won something in the 80s but got to the final in 2006/2007. Won something in the 60s. Both predate their current league, changed names but not general areas. Industrial area roots. Some differences: Bears have been more dominant in the regular season at times and won bunch in the 30s/40s. West Ham won something in the 70s. Speaking not as Bears' fan."
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Nutsin is right im afraid so how fucking dare you claim the seahawks are the west ham of the nfl!!! ;o) And that first half for the steelers last night was probably the worst half of football I've ever seen from any team. Absolutely atrocious all round without taking anything away from the bengals, who didn't even have to try very hard."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Seattle Seahawks are possibly the Stoke of the NFL. Always trying to foul and cheat their way to victory. The same could be said for the Saints.
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Nutsin 4:49 Tue Dec 22 Lol. Try saying that last sentence without crying you massive melt. We're clearly the West Ham of the NFL - an occasional excellent season, but usually blow it when we have the chance to press on. But even when we naturally do so again this season, I'll still have the bonus of the 49ers being back where they belong at the bottom of the NFC West. So every cloud and all that"
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"You'll still lose next week as You'll still have that useless fucker Goff playing! Very amusing result, but the old faithful Higbee next TD in running worked a treat again. Still give him odds of 16's so the plum doing the markets clearly knows nothing about NFL."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I'm fucking livid, btw. We let Jamal Adams - our captain, the best safety in the NFL and one of best defensive players in the league - go over the summer and took an early decision to tank the season. Presumably with both eyes on Trevor Lawrence. So free agency was a joke, play-calling was a joke, they dropped two likely victories on purpose (notably the infamous 'zero coverage' play call on 3rd and long against the Raiders) and for what? To not get Lawrence? Absolute joke of a franchise. Even worse-run than West Ham!"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"And there is no way I'd touch Justin Fields with the #2 pick after his last outing. It was a horror show. Better, perhaps, for the Jets to use their several high-picks next year to rebuild a proper team around Sam Darnold, who played well yesterday. Tanking was all about getting Lawrence. Now that's unlikely, keep the kid, sack the coaches, give the GM a giant kick up his backside, and build a proper team."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Even silver linings in this horrific year are coated with a veneer of horseshit. The Jets win their first game of the season - thereby depriving themselves of the #1 draft pick next year, and a likely star quarterback! Weapons-grade incompetence, even in victory. If you're going to tank - at least make sure you get the outcome you need! Unbelievable. Absolutely no need to keep The Idiot Gase now, as we won't get the #1 pick. So we should make a point of sacking him just after he won his only game of the season! But they won't: our owners are so incompetent that they'd send the email to the wrong person and effectively fire themselves (no bad thing)!"
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Awful cockney, really disappointing but don't listen to Joe C we'll be smarting and play a lot better next week."
