NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Btw, strong signs that the Jets are more decided now on what they are going to do with the #2 pick in the draft. The #1 pick for the Jags is nailed on as Lawrence. So the big mystery is what the Jets do: stick with Darnold and draft his nailed-on line blocker in Sewell; break the bank with a megatrade for Deshaun Watson; or draft another QB? All the sounds emerging from New York indicate that they are going to opt for BYU's Zach Wilson as their new QB with the #2 pick. Could be a bluff, but Saleh, LaFleur and Douglas have spent a lot of time assessing this kid. He's clearly high on their agenda. No idea if that's the right choice. Wilson does look very good. But I feel like Darnold has been poorly treated in New Jersey."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I like the Jets' new-found preference for peak-age players (26 to 29) in free agency. They cost a little more, but they can still be improved while giving you a few years more than an out-and-out veteran. That's a solid start by Robert Saleh/Joe Douglas."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"They say if you can't go accurate, go big. Jets have nabbed Corey Davis (6ft 4) from the Titans at WR and can now pair him up with Denzel Mims (6ft 3). Those cornerbacks in the AFC East had better be tall! Decent, if unspectacular, first day of free agency for new coach Saleh. Davis is 26 years old and hit almost 1,000 yards receiving last season. He's a decent WR and gives us another big receiving target in the play-action system favoured by our new offensive co-ordinator. They also nabbed a decent pass-rusher in Lawson from Cincinatti. Again, he's 26 and his best years are ahead of him providing he can stay healthy."

"Cam needed some weapons. If you have nothing to watch, he did a good video podcast with the I Am Athlete (Brandon Marshall, Chad Ochocinco & Fred Taylor) boys. It's on youtube and an interesting watch. After listening to him, I was hoping we'd sign him but he's clearly enjoying his time with the Pats"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Yeah, but that's what's a bit weird about the Prescott deal, Trundle: he's getting huge guarantees for seasons two, three and four. Yet he hasn't even fully recovered from a huge injury. I hope for his sake that this doesn't happen (he's a good player and deserves to come back in good nick), but he could take the field next season and not have anything like the same mobility or strength in that foot. Yet the Girls have just lumped a lot on him for the next four seasons. Like I said. I'll be surprised if he starts every game next season. Still, good luck to him. He's a decent fella."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The Cowboys are paying Dak Prescott $22.5 million to play for them in 2021. The Eagles are paying Carson Wentz $34M to play for someone else in 2021.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"It's a little insane for the Cowboys to offer that much to Prescott (admittedly a talented QB) coming off the back of that injury. There must be some sort of clause in the deal? Unless the Girls are back to their pre-cap lunacy. A past compound fracture (and dislocated ankle) is easily the sort of injury where you could miss future games following little more than a high ankle sprain. The soft tissue around the injury almost never heals up 100%, even when you can pin the bones etc. And the Girls are going to throw that sort of money at it? I'd be amazed if he starts 16 games next season. They must REALLY rate Prescott."
Re: NFL (since 2016)
It is huge but they must be pretty confident of him getting back to full fitness. Lawrence Dallaglio had a similar injury and went on to win the World Cup and was even better once he got fit. The Cowboys looked like a good playoff prospect while he was at the helm. Sort their shite secondary out and they have the offense to go long.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I was half-wondering whether Saleh might take a Klecko-style punt on Watt at the Jets (when Gang Green gave Klecko a contract despite his knee injury - a move which worked out superbly when he moved from DE to DT). Clearly not. Probably the right choice when you're trying to rebuild with younger players. But we could do with some more experience on the D-line.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"CF - yeah, I had a feeling he might go to the Cards once some of the other offers came in on the 'lower' (for his expectations) side of things. He was a beast of a player, but he has played around half of NFL games in the past five seasons and, some say, he might be one more injury away from calling it a day. Reckon he's balancing his pre-retirement cash with the desire to win. Don't blame him - it's an unforgiving sport and he has had more than his fair share of injuries due to his intensity. Superb player when he's fully fit and raging."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
JJ Watt to the Cardinals then. Seems like he went middle of the road on money and calibre of team. Seems like he had bigger offers for lesser teams and bigger teams with smaller offers so chose quite well in the end.

"I agree. They have totally fucked up this whole situation. Handed him a huge contract, drafted a QB in the 2nd round a couple of months after, were left with no weapons and no O Line, shock horror, Wentz has a bad season and they trade him away whilst swallowing over $30 million in dead cap!"

I don't listen to the 'bad leader' shit. the biggest problem in philadelphia are the numbskulls in their front office. little will improve until that changes

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Wentz has got a cannon of an arm and with the right set up, could do very well. This signing also puts to bed some of the rumours about how he is a negative influence in the locker room. The Colts' HC and Press Taylor know Wentz as well as anyone, if he is that bad a leader then they wouldn't have wanted anything to do with him. I think the Eagles got bent over and rammed pretty hard with this deal. It was clear they were holding out for more and Wentz forced their arm. They should have held tight. They have let him go for nothing and still are into him for £30 million of dead cap. It's a terrible deal"
