For that reason, I wouldn't read too much into what owners say. For once, the main exception will be the Jets - and that's not because the Johnsons are reliable and fine, upstanding owners (quite the opposite). We just have shitshow-level form with BB and the fans would go genuinely apeshit. It would be like Ince, Lampard Jnr and Defoe returning to West Ham as part of the same deal."

"Wouldn't put it past Belichick to take a job at a play-off team that decides to part ways with its coach over the next couple of weeks - not least because he will inherit a half-decent team that already gives him a strong starting point. But. He is a very particular, fastidious and powerful HC and he will want a lot of say over not just how the team is run (that's the HC's job anyway), but also the wider franchise. He's been the GM in all but name in New England for a while. That will most likely rule out a move to somewhere like Seattle, where Pete Carroll (72 years-old) wants to stay on as an adviser (to a 71-year-old and more successful HC?!). Of the franchises with current vacancies, there are three that strike me as suitable for Belichick if he decides to carry on (which now sounds likely): Washington, Tennessee and, bizarre though it sounds, the LA Chargers. The first two are obvious. Washington is perfect for a total rebuild and Belichick would get any role he wants beyond the HC (effectively becoming the GM if he wanted). He'd also get the #2 draft pick. Likewise, Tennessee - where he'd get the #7 pick in the draft and an opportunity to take a high-grade QB. But even though it is across the country, the LA Chargers offers perhaps the best option of current vacancies for any incoming coach - because they have a top-level franchise QB already in place in Justin Herbert. And he fits BB's model. That's ""the"" key consideration sorted - and it would allow BB to focus on his defensive solidity in the draft. Realistically, I couldn't see BB upping sticks and going out west. But beyond geography, the Chargers job is a no-brainer for a proven coach coming in to a franchise that has a QB who can already move the ball. Long way to go yet, though. Some of the fancied play-off teams might yet sack their coaches when they lose."

"I make it seven other HC vacancies already available, even before the play-offs are done: Seahawks, Commanders, Panthers, Falcons, Chargers, Titans and Raiders. Is that right? A few other sides could part ways with their HC and are rumoured to be considering it. Could see a ""big"" name team with an egotistical owner pulling the trigger on a half-decent coach if they want the kudos of Belichick's reputation. So that does put Dallas in the mix, although Belichick isn't a fan and they'd have to pay him an absolute fortune. The one franchise you can 100% rule out is the Jets: our fans would rather gouge their eyes out with a hot poker, and eat their own flesh, than go begging to that cսnt again, regardless of his record. And I suspect the feeling is mutual. So safe to say it's one of 30 teams!"

But he'd be in his 74th year at the point when he realistically had a shot at beating Shula's record (unless he went 15-2 with a brand new team next season). It seems like a lot of work still for a guy who would have to start again somewhere new."
