NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Also, I think the Jets (particularly the fans) were burnt by the Kyle Brady/Warren Sapp experience. It still looms large in Jets history.
Brady was at Penn State, too. So, however good Warren is, the echoes of that deal, when Glenn was at the Jets as a player, will be on everybody’s mind.
Sapp was a nailed on leader and was always going to be a grade-A NFL player. But pre-draft hysteria and overthink meant almost the entire league talked themselves out of a superb player.

Seen his figures and watched his highlights etc at Penn, and he certainly looks like a very good prospect. But I’m never sure about taking a TE that high up. There’s a lot of value, picks-wise and in wages, attached to any top-10 choice.
It’s like making a left back your priority signing. If it’s Paolo Maldini or Roberto Carlos, sure. If it’s Wayne Quinn, walk away!
My gut feeling is that we need to lock down the offensive line at right-tackle - or the backs will struggle to move the ball again - or improve our ability to go after the ball on defense. So, an edge rusher or cornerback to play opposite sauce. Sides with two good corners can take a lot away from good opposition QBs.
But Warren does look good. I see why there’s fuss.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
If we can’t take a top-class QB at #7, which looks likely, then I think we have to lock up right-tackle or go for one of the many good edge rushers or cornerbacks in this draft.
We do need at TE, don’t get me wrong. But #7 is a high-pick we hope not have again soon. He’d have to be top-class.

Interesting, TM, and cheers.
I really hope we don’t take a TE with the #7 pick. That’s extremely high for a TE, and we have many other pressing needs.
We’ve also got infamous form for over-reaching on a TE. 1995, Rich Kotite took Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp - despite our fans at the draft singing Sapp’s name. Everybody thought we’d take Sapp - he even wanted to lead New York. We passed, took Brady, he was bang average at best and a big over-reach. The Buccs took Sapp. The rest is history!
Aaron Glenn was a Jet at the time. I’m not sure he’d risk a repeat!

Interesting, RB: I definitely think Winston could start for either New York side while we’re rebuilding.
If I were Glenn, I’d want Winston in free agency. Sure, he’ll lose some games due to too many interceptions - that’s been his Achilles heel at several sides and it probably won’t change much. So I get why his value is low right now.
But he’s a gunslinger, and he’ll also throw several 300+ yard games in a season. He could still start at rebuilding sides with lower expectations for the next couple of seasons. He also generally stays healthy. Nine seasons in the league already, and just one bad injury.
Get him in, draft a longer-term prospect and take your time…

Sanders has talent. He also has a gigantic ego.
GMs and HCs have to take a step back and rationally analyse what he’s all about. Focus on the mechanics, technique and in-game decision-making under pressure.
The rest is mostly noise (although you need to ensure he won’t ruin the dressing room).
I don’t know if he’s going to be top-class. He might well be - and he “might” not be an overreach. Sometimes the ego is worth it, if you can manage it. But the important thing is to be sure he has top-end NFL talent.
If decision-makers think he’s over-valued, then one thing is certain: Dart and Milroe will shoot up the board. Because there are so many sides that need a QB.
In these circumstances, the Jets need to ensure they don’t overspend. They’ve done that before, with Mark Sanchez, Bryce Petty and Kellen Clemons etc.

All they have left Sam Howell who is, obviously, never going to be a starter even temporarily and the possible free agents all look to be pretty risky.
They must be be planning to trade away other players for higher draft picks but there are only 2 obvious QB candidates there.
Maybe they could get Sam Darnold or Justin FIelds on the cheap for a season and hope something turns after that but it does like a complete tear down as it stands.
Could definitely see the Hawks go for Darnold. And he’d do well there. He’s not a top-5 QB. But he has talent. The Jets should have stuck with him, but they have always been terrible at developing QBs. We let him down.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
his NC team were fun to watch, just a shame the defence wasn't great. if he'd gone to the draft at the end of this season I'm sure he would have been a fire round pick. the funny thing about the game below is Sam Hartman, who later played for Notre Dame is now one of our back ups in Washington

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Joe, I watched a couple of seasons of Sam at NC. He thrived in a run heavy system where he had Javonte Williams (more of a workhorse back) and Michael Carter (more a speed, third down back). That scheme opened up space for him to make shots down the field to his receivers. Clearly Rivera, and Bienemy didn't watch any of his college games and that last season in Washington, we barely run the ball and he was throwing ridiculous amounts of time behind a terrible o-line. Those two pretty much fucked him financially with the way they schemed the offense. With an OC that is happy to work off a consistent run game, Sam can start at pro level
*and what's amazing is he's still younger (24) than multiple QB prospects going in to next month's draft*

Howell is an odd one. We specifically targeted getting him, Macdonald wanted him based on the Seahawks/Commanders game from the season prior (which OTB and I were at funnily enough), but then chose Geno as our starting QB again

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Some early smart money on the Jets coming up the board (using mid-round picks) and taking Jaxson Dart as a late first-rounder on top of holding the #7 pick.
Not sure if this is how Glenn will see it - or whether Dart will still be available late in Rnd 1 after having a good combine. But it seems that the Jets spent good time with Dart and Milroe, both expected to be QB picks outside the top 20 in the draft (most experts have them as 2nd rounders). So, rightly, I think we're unlikely to trade up from #7 to try to land Ward or Sanders.
I think the Jets starting QB position is up for grabs next season. There's still talk of a move for Jameis Winston, Justin Fields - and even some confidence (internally) that Tyrod Taylor could do a half-decent job while he's still there. Any of those options would give us time to develop somebody like Dart or Milroe.
The tug of war for the #7 pick seems to be between the new OC, who wants a right tackle and there is an excellent prospect there in Armand Membou, and the new HC who has got his eyes on a few excellent defensive prospects. Looks like we won't be picking a QB with #7. Rightly.
I'd take Winston as a free agent, Membou or somebody like Mason Graham (if he's still available) with the #7 pick and then try to land Dart by trading up. It might fail, but what the fuck: everything else we do fails!

cleveland could also try and move, but I think because garrett is determined to leave, the thoughts are they'll take carter at two as his replacement

Can’t see it being a kings ransom Miike. Our first. Maybe next year’s 2nd. And a 5th.? As shit as we been. We haven’t picked first overall since the mid sixties.! Ward may not be a stud. But he is solid. And after Jones. I’m taking solid.

shorty, hearing rumours from pretty clued up insiders that you'll be moving up to pick one and doing a deal with the titans. no clue of the cost, but you clearly want ward
