Reminds me of The Swan in Stockwell.

I seem to remember the occasional collection for 'the cause' in there many years ago. Wasn't really optional either...
There were some good late night spots around South London around the times times and the Swan was one of them.
Spent many a good night at the Caterbury Arms (RIP) in Brixton. Remember seeing Exrtreme Noise Terror and Carcass there and played there a couple of times. It was good for a post Brixton Academy gig drink or few.
There was also a "Tapas bar" in Camberwell that was good for a post pub session until 4am. They really stretched the licensing laws to the limit.

yes, what a three album run - Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. definitely my favourite of the grunge bands, just gutted I missed seeing Cornell live

Had tickets for Soundgarden a few days (iirc) after Nirvana were due to play over here (still have the Nirvana ticket).
Unfortunately learning Cobain had blown his head off on the Friday put a bit of a downer on it. None of us fancied it so gave it a swerve.
Still regret not going, mind.

The only one from that scene I saw live was Pearl Jam, but that was late 90s. Not sure why I bothered as I stopped buying their albums when the drummer Dave was sacked, but they were still very good on the night
