May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

It makes me think why would Gold, Kretinsky and Tripp Smith bother to show their hand at this late stage? What Sullivan and Brady are doing has never been sustainable on a long term basis especially when it's been continuously proven that they refuse to learn from their gross incompetence.

He inherited a Moyes sqaud that was already on the slide both in terms of average age and performances.  Our league form was absolutely dreadful for 2 years but was hidden by our European campaign.

Not to mention the rot that has been here since G&S owned the club.

Lopetegui was in fact a very small factor in why we are where we are.  Afterall, the owners appointed him in the first place.

 

Broadly agree. The squad had already been neglected over 18 months or two years and was paper thin and aging. Lop came in and the three headed monster of he TS and Sullivan at odds with each other just made it even worse, to add to his methods clearly destroying the morale of the squad. What we are seeing now is the chickens from 2-3 years ago coming home to roost. Moyes was irresponsible at least toward the end and just building for the short term (I can’t fully blame him seen as he knew his time was coming to an end) which is probably why Sullivan could understand his methods.

Keeping Rice was NOT an option.
We were lucky to have him for another season as the vultures were circling long before he actually went.

His admittance of preferring to work with a small squad when in Europe and obviously the Premiership, baffled me. 
I will never forget that time when Sullivan went on Talksport shortly after the win in Praque and how he was in 'sales mode' in regards to Declan Rice. Well, what a great financial deal that turned out to be. The money was spent on a bunch of 'Joe Average' players. Should have kept Rice until his contract ran out, whilst bringing in a few players. Still, hindsight and all that.

Overall, what a shambles of a club.

Quite right and called for that to happen at the time to keep Rice, even if it meant running his contract down as I couldn't trust them to get it right in the market. I warned it would be Rio MK II all over again and that's how it turned out to be, just on a bigger scale.

True, the team was aging and square pegs in round holes. 

However there did seem to be some team spirit, unity and respect under Moyes, regardless of any other noise surrounding the club. No rumours coming out about fights and previously stable players beginning to act erratically and disinterested. That was under Lopetegui.

I wasn’t against Potter soldiering on with what he had but it was obvious that our midfield needed a complete revamp to add pace, energy & the ability to retain & win possession 
We are coming up to a bit over a month before the season starts & at the moment Soucek & JWP will still be trudging around at Sunderland 
Ludicrous that players weren’t lined up & even more so Sullivan telling us nothing is happening until Kudus goes. Meanwhile we dangle on the end of Levy’s line

I agree to some extent but Loptegui (and his appointment) is definitely culpable. He filled the spine of our team with immobile players. Kilman, Rodriguez, Solar and Fulkrug. We were crying out for some dynamism, particularly in midfield. He bought players ill suited to this league and not what we needed to compliment the squad we had. If we'd bought the type of players are being linked with this summer, I think we'd be in a much better place now.

I'm not sure Paqueta has ever really done it for us. Flashes, certainly and a great pass to Bowen.  . But name a game he has truly bossed it and won it for us. Where's the wonder goal, the last minute winner. I'm struggling to remember.

Oh, and we absolutely are going to end up with some players that nobody - even the manager - wants. Pre-season started this week, we’ve released at least 11 players and signed one new face (an 18-year-old).

Given the competition for signings this summer, it’s now almost inevitable that we’ll end up padding out the squad in the final few days before the window closes (we’ll also land some proper targets). Expect some desperate signings. Can see Sullivan turning up at training with another Zarate in tow.

But he hasn't been able to do any of that. He's brought the good players down to the shit players level with his "brand" of slow, sideways cautious football.  If they don't want to be here, it's as much on him as anything else. Good players recognise they have short careers, and don't like losing. 

 

 

By "good players" you're referring to Kudus, Alvarez and Paqueta... one of whom appears keen to leave, a second has really had a bang average record throughout his time with us and the third has been playing under a career-threatening cloud.

Potter was a poor appointment but I'm not sure the performance of these three is all on him

It’s yet another example of how the club’s two-bob approach at board and management level has screwed us for several seasons.

We’re “skint”, have a disjointed squad full of overpaid and bang average players, and have another deeply uninspiring and life-sucking coach on our hands. One who actively discourages his players from shooting.

I can’t recall a summer and season that I had less interest in than the 2025/26 effort. It’s shaping up to be a long, dull slog.

The only thing I’m looking forward to seeing this term is how the likes of Earthy, Scarles and other youth team players do when they get some playing time (which, given the lack of signings, looks inevitable at this point).
