Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Sullivan WILL spend big on occasion. Trouble is it's almost always on the wrong/shit/ill suited players.
Bloke cannot spot talent. Much as Lop wanted Kilman, Sullivan agreed he was worth what we paid in fee and wages and contract length or he wouldn't have arrived.

You must have been completely flummoxed with the Kilman transfer, Sir Alf.

It goes against everything you think of the bloke.
Presumably it was Steidten who negotiated the Kilman deal, although the story goes that he thought the price was too high and we should have kept Aguerd instead anyway. Hard to say what involvement Sullivan had in it, except maybe to overrule Steidten and let Lopetegui have at least one player that he really wanted.

We wanted the loan with the obligation to buy for cash flow purposes
Not too upset if we miss out on Luiz
Had read that Man U were also interested
They seem to be distracted by trying to shift those 5 players that are prob costing them £1m a week
Plus being bent over by Brentford over Mbuemo. Agreed at £65m, now being told it’s £70m. Ha ha ha

Grealish is talented but needs to leave City where he isn’t being used properly … bit like Joe Cole under Mourinho
The only way he’d come to us is on loan with City paying about two thirds of his wages
Unlikely

Agree that Elliot or McAtee would be better options
Elliot will be too expensive & have more attractive choices
I wouldn’t mind the Leicester (El Khannouss) or Southampton (Fernandes) linked players
Cheaper & less competition
Plus Hermansen the Leicester keeper. Finance that by selling Areola & bringing in a cheaper no2

Can't really see Man City loaning out Grealish unless it's with an obligation to buy. Next year he'll have one year left on his contract and be 31 in September, so now is the time for them to sell. Of course if they get no takers then they might as well get a loan fee and his wages taken care of rather than having him sit on the bench or in the reserves. He only made one league start for them since December. He did play in most of the FA cup games but was dropped for the final. I'd say he's on the way out for sure.

I do think he'd suit Potter's style of play but overall would be a poor signing unless he took a massive cut in wages, was on a fairly short contract and didn't cost too much.

He’s a very good player no doubt but we need to stop looking at this type of player. Nearly 30. 300k a week he is on.

much rather the club invested in the likes of Elliot or Mcatee. Long term prospects whose value are much less likely to go down.

id take Grealish on loan if we were to sign someone like Elliot also but that is never going to happen.

Perhaps the footballing lexicon needs a new term:

"The Sullivan": a promise made that all parties know will never be honoured.

I don't think it's all about money. It's more likely that Sullivan and Vinegar TIt's promised him the earth and when he got started the midget couldn't keep his snout out of it.

Just like he has done with everybody else...it should be obvious to everyone by now 🙄

You rarely see players, manager or even directors going out verbally towards a former club like this. In football things can change very quickly, and you might end up with the same player, manager, club etc, so one have to be very careful.

This cas is special because he is damn right, and everyone need to know what's going on (even if we already do). So thanks Tim, and sorry it didn't work out. But it doesn't with Sullivan...

It's well worth a read...you can translate from German to English by right clicking the top right hand corner of your browser and selecting translate (funnily enough!)

https://www.transfermarkt.de/steidtens- ... ews/457015

https://www.transfermarkt.de/steidten-u ... ews/457021

Transfermarkt: What would you rule out? (From any potential new employer)

Steidten: That I would be working in a structure where it's not entirely clear what's needed and, therefore, no common path is discernible. Commitment to a path and good employees are the most important things.

I think there will be a few outgoing transfers.
Rodriguez, Emerson, Aguerd & Irving all look likely. Paquetta if he gets off too though I would hope he stays. Almost forget about Cornet who I hope also leaves.
A few others possibly, Mavro, Soucek, Alvarez & or JWP,  though am not averse to Soucek & Alvarez staying as long as the other midfielders I mentioned leave and as rumoured we sign a couple of younger energetic midfielders.

All the above have rumoured interest in them so I would expect most of them to go.

From what I can gather we are targetting 2 new midfielders, a RB, CB and another striker.
