Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

My guess is if Potter hasn't integrated them into the first squad this preseason, like he's done with Potts, then there's very little chance we'll be seeing any of them this upcoming season.

We've not seen anything more of Fearon after he showed up the rest of the midfield in that game in the States.

Seems to me the reason we are not selling any players is because they will be better than what we can afford to replace them with.
This window is a royal piss take, while all we want is a better team than last season, Sullivan and the board are playing games. They have no intention of improving us.

I fully regret renewing my season ticket, I honestly thought they wouldn't be this stupid, I know Sullivan is, but not the rest of the board, so what's going on.

if I knew we were this skint, no way would I have renewed.

We don't need to do anything like that for PSR. No danger of breaching it this summer. We're just skint and have no money to spend. That's why we've spent so little comparatively to even teams in PSR trouble. They have cash, we do not.

It's been an unmitigated disaster, so far, in my eyes.

Nothing's changed.  We're still having Sullivan pick players.  We still rely on Salthouse too much.  We still seem to heavily just focus on one player (not one type of player) and often ending up spending WAY too much for him.  We still haven't improved the 2 biggest problems from season (CB and CM).

The only 2 positives is that hopefully we have a good deal with Hermansen, and hopefully he becomes our new number 1, and Diouf does look decent every now and then on the LWB position.

But there was no one calling out for those 2 positions to be upgraded as a priority, when apparently we're so skint.

And don't get me started about Wilson.

I hoping to be a bit more positive after the Sunderland game, if we beat them.

Fernandes would be a great buy. But, as I said yesterday, not a priority - Especially with Paqueta staying. yes, in an ideal world, we get Fernandes in and then look to sell Paq in the summer with Fernandes stepping up. But we are operating in a far from ideal world.

The two for me are Makua and Gueyue. We van literally get these two for just north of £30m. And they would transform our squad. A powerful dynamic box to box midfielder and a young striker.

I know what Sullivan is doing. He has dropped the bait and, according to news outlets from a few days ago, both players and clubs wanted the move. But he will leave it right to the last minute so Lille and Metz respectively won't have much negotiation time and he will say to them the money is there, take it or leave it. But, as we know, that approach leaves them no time to work with the coach / manager and then they need a few weeks to bed in. But, as we know, for Sullivan, his view of that is 'so fucking what? I got myself a bargain'.

FFS, just go and get them now.

His 'strategy' also only works on the assumption the seller is desperate to sell before the end of the window or the player is going to really agitate for the move. Probably he assumes everyone runs their shit in the same amateur slapdash short sighted last minute way he does.

If the club doesn't want to sell, they just tell us to do one and we get the old 'we tried' and Jonjo Shelvey and Josh Brownhill on 5 year contracts. And then he blames all his staff rather than looking at himself.

Apparently the Lille midfielder is our top target now

We're gonna think about a bid, then prepare a bid, then make a lowball bid, then get some random Brazilian to go wait at the airport, then make a decent bid...

There almost seems to be a weird view that to look for a box to box midfielder, you can’t look at white lads 😂. It must date back to Vieira being the blue print.

I really don’t think it’s Paqueta OR Fernandes. Fernandes, to my eye, seems to he more Declan Rice in style than a Paqueta. He is the box the box midfielder we’re looking for!

I know he only has a Portuguese tan, but I think he still fits the bill at the right price!

Most sources seem to have Kante at 5'10 and 10 stone! Either he's had a very late growth spurt or that info was from years ago.

The fact that he could barely get a game in Ligue 2 last season doesn't bode well for him being ready for the Premier League though. Maybe a year's loan in the Championship might be a better move for now.

Then along comes Potter..

"Lads, what the hell do you think you're doing?! We have 10 men behind the ball Drills for a reason, so stop doing skill work on the ball and give it to me, you're all fined a weeks wage"
Yep!

It will remain very much that way until we get a couple of players who offer energy and mobility in midfield that cover the ground quickly to take the constant heat off of our defenders. An actual striker with youth on his side might help the cause too.

Until then, Potter will be keeping the lines as tight as he possibly can to prevent getting stuffed like a Turkey on the counter attack. It ain't pretty and is bloody boring at the best of times but so was conceeding at least 4 goals on a regular basis at least once maybe twice a month.

Until that midfield sorted then it's not going to change in the short term.
Even when we had 1 of the very best Defensive Midfielders playing regularly for us in the world at the heart of the Team as Captain, we still stuck 10 men behind the ball. It's not just about personnel, it's also about encouraging your most skillful players to express themselves high up the pitch and for the Team in general to attack and press more.

Moyes MK II thus far doesn't give me the impression he really wants to play that way and has been a near carbon copy of what Moyes churned out apart from passing aimlessly amongst ourselves at the back more when we do get hold of the ball achieving very little. Same as what he did managing his previous Clubs as well.
