May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

They are looking for £35 maybe even £40 million. I dont know if he’s worth anything like that but its classic Sullivan and Southampton hold almost all of the cards as they dont have to sell. We have 11 days is it and are they know we are desperate for central midfielders and Sullivan and Brady told everyone we’re skint with their “we must sell before we buy” before the window started.

Sullivan rates himself as a deal maker. He’s clueless, an amateur, a Del Boy trying to operate in the high end, luxury goods market. We wont get him for less than £40. If we ( Potter ) dont think he’s worth it then quickly get to the next target. Only thing on our sude is supposedly Fernandes wants the move. That might help get him for £40 with only £35 mill up front.  

Tie up the Makau deal asap now imo. But watch Sullivan put in a derisory bid or one well short of their £20 mill valuation Lille would supposedly look for. Sullivan has left it to the last minute to further reduce his negotiating hand.

With him doing negotiations he is again ultimately the “gatekeeper” on all transfers in and out but tells everyone its Potter and Macaulay.  

The “Sullivan Effect” is in overdrive right now.  He will not get the signings Potter and the squad needs is where Im leaning as we have seen many times before. Steidten may have not been perfect but could get a deal over the line

Oh yeah, and there will be the attempt to put all the blame on Potter and Macauley too. 'The manager didn't want to buy anyone' is the standard line which actually means 'We didn't seriously go after any players he actually wanted, and then he refused the cheaper second rate players we did say we'd get him'

If this is correct, Sullivan is a fucking timewasting clown. All this is is a 'we tried' scenario unfolding before us at the end of the window, before we get someone cheaper in who has 'some' of the right attributes but isn't what we actually, desperately, need. Clearly there's no serious intent to go out and get the manager the player he wants and all of us are begging for. What does Sullivan think is going to happen if he keeps going down this road? Like other clubs, Forest generated a big profit on player sales in 2023/24 - Johnson and a few others. Gave them quite a lot of PSR headroom. Plus they probably have more ambitious owners to ensure cash flow is not a problem 

They have a complete nutjob as a owner, who is driven to be at the top. Had a taste of it last year, now got Europe and wants more.  Geezer is dodgy as anything, loads of history around it....but all he does is to compete and win. The Gibbs-Whtie saga proved that.

Akanji as a stop gap for a few seasons makes sense, he is a very good player and use to playing in a back 3.  He plays on either side and is of real quality. 

I am surprised City are considering getting rid of him to be honest. 

For a reasonable fee it would be a great signing for us,  so of course it won't happen. But just another example of how it isn't really that hard to do some decent business. 

 

 

Yup, It's not what you want in terms of age but Akanji is absolutely better than every CD we have at the club. He would be a good stop gap buying some time to get in some youngsters for the future or just retooling. I hate the short termist view of it and that he'd likely have fuck all resale value, but I don't mind as long as the board actually commits to long term development and progress and commits to buying young players to replace him in a couple of years, and the shower we currently have in that position.

Still, won't happen. If we get a veteran CB it'll be someone fucking atrocious and 3-4 years older through good old Salty.
