Superhero Supertramp

Post Iron Duke »

With the sad news of founding member and vocalist Rick Davies passing away, I was reminded about what a fantastic and unique band Supertramp were/are.

I only started getting into them a few years ago. I don’t think there is another band that sounds anything like them.

My favourite songs - School, Crime of the Century, The Logical Song, Breakfast in America, Goodbye Stranger

The original Diamond Dogs cover was a gatefold with a picture comprising of Bowie from the torso up and a great Dane making up the bottom half of the beast with some very large genitalia in full view.
Collectors pay a fortune for a copy and Danny Baker is said to have one of the very few that exist.

Yeah they had a few that would likely not pass muster these days. Animal Magnetism being one that was very much 'of it's era'. In fact this would have not been too surprising as a Spinal Tap album cover.

The original cover for Virgin Killer just doesn't bear thinking about!😁

I remember going through my elder sister's LPs at a pretty early age, and being absolutely spellbound by the cover of Crime of The Century, my imagination running wild about what would have been going on behind this image.

She also had a copy of Brain Salad Surgery which was pretty mindblowing too. An early taster of the mind and style behind all the Alien film visual design a few years later.

Amazing the power of those album covers when you are young.

Buried In America? The Biological Song? In an Even Quieter Moment? Nah!

Goodbye Stranger.

One of my favourite bands - always worth a listen, Paris is a good shout on a top live album; the associated video ain't too bad, either.

RIP to (yet) another contributor to the aural tapestry against which I grew up.
