Nuno Nuno In

Post Eerie Decent »

Welcome, Nuno son.

Not my first choice, wish we were more forward looking and all that. But he's here, and to be honest, he's probably what we need given everything we all know is wrong with the club and the team at present.

Positives are he was a goalkeeper, so he'll surely make the best decision on that front going forward. Hermansen has looked shocking, but those that had watched him regularly all rated him, so who knows, maybe in a different set up he might not be so bad, but expect Areloa to be first choice.

Brought Kilman into the Wolves team, and built him into a player we were stupid enough to pay £40mil for. Can't see if myself, but maybe he'll make him look competent, whatever way, the defence will improve under him. It can't not. And set pieces against us won't feel like penalty's.

He favours attacking fullbacks who get forward, and ours are suited to that. JWP won't start from now. The biggest positive of this appointment. He loves wingers, and we have one of the best in the league in Bowen, a rapid one in Summerville, and Guilherme will hopefully get some game time as back up in a style that will suit him. Fullkrug can maybe be our Chris Wood. Probably not, but lets hope so.

Ovbviously he's a counter attacking manager, but I don't think he's from the last 2 years of Moyes playbook. Hopefully it'll be the early version of Moyes, with quicker pressing and faster counter attacking. Let's fucking hope so. I remember Forest beating someone 7-0, and they scored loads of goals throughout the season.

The main problem remains, but fucking hell, this change was needed.

This is all very depressing and I can't get remotely excited about this appointment - although I'm glad Potter's gone and, given our ownership, he might be the best we're likely to get. I literally can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game at the LS and wish I had listened to my sane self and not renewed this season.
It would appear that Nuno is a Moyes type of manager and I'm not sure how much more of that I can take. There must be someone who can keep us up and at the same time give us something decent to watch. Not anyone we're likely to get I guess.

I'm really hoping this turns out much better than I'm expecting. Maybe it will.

You may well be right and it looks grim right now. Forest also destined to struggle I think with the weight of euro competition. There’s so much time left and it’s so early that anything could still happen within reason. Beating the likes of forest, Burnley, wolves, Leeds will be absolutely key.

It’s too soon to say, but unlike last season where it was apparent by this stage who the 3 worst teams are it’s not the case this season. At this point we are not looking good but now we’ve addressed the potter situation we have to hope Nuno has the players and employs the right tactics to drag us clear. Avoiding relegation will be seen as an achievement by many, just like it was in many of our seasons past.
Next four games are key. You want to see at least the right team putting up a fight and not making stupid mistakes as individuals or from set pieces es like we have been. And any points from the next two are a bonus, but then after the international break you want to see an identity and a win or two.

I like him and a definite upgrade on Partridge, I just question the long term. He doesn't tend to stick around for long and has it in him to fall out with an Owner. Sullivan could get right on his tits knowing how he operates. Ultimately I'm just happy we made the decision to sack Potter as we looked destined for relegation the way we were going under him.

Go rip it up, Nuno as the potential here is huge if only it is tapped in too properly...

Anticipated Positives:
  • JWP wont start (shirley)
  • Defence will improve  / not be as bad
  • We might see the youth players come in
  • When we do sign someone it will be the manager's choice (Nuno wont stand for being handed players)
Anticipated Negatives:
  • Defence first  - don't expect we'll be entertained with freeflow attacking football - like under Moyes
  • I don't think anything can change the fact we are goal shy until we an sign another striker
  • Still think we'll still see an over reliance on Soucek

A welcome change but still just feels like back to the drawing board. Millions down the drain and a return to where we were in Moyes' final season.

I expect him to do better than the previous two, but it's a bit worrying that he didn't really start off too well at Forest. When he took over there in December they were 17th, and that's where they finished. He's known as a defensive manager but he didn't do much to improve their leaky defence, which is obviously a priority for us. 37 goals conceded in his 21 league games in charge that season (they'd conceded 30 in 17 under Cooper). Obviously he did very well last season, but that was after overhauling their defence and central midfield with new players.

Only West Ham could lose 5 of their first 6 games and then hire the manager of the only team they have beaten
