Not my first choice, wish we were more forward looking and all that. But he's here, and to be honest, he's probably what we need given everything we all know is wrong with the club and the team at present.

Positives are he was a goalkeeper, so he'll surely make the best decision on that front going forward. Hermansen has looked shocking, but those that had watched him regularly all rated him, so who knows, maybe in a different set up he might not be so bad, but expect Areloa to be first choice.

Brought Kilman into the Wolves team, and built him into a player we were stupid enough to pay £40mil for. Can't see if myself, but maybe he'll make him look competent, whatever way, the defence will improve under him. It can't not. And set pieces against us won't feel like penalty's.

He favours attacking fullbacks who get forward, and ours are suited to that. JWP won't start from now. The biggest positive of this appointment. He loves wingers, and we have one of the best in the league in Bowen, a rapid one in Summerville, and Guilherme will hopefully get some game time as back up in a style that will suit him. Fullkrug can maybe be our Chris Wood. Probably not, but lets hope so.

Ovbviously he's a counter attacking manager, but I don't think he's from the last 2 years of Moyes playbook. Hopefully it'll be the early version of Moyes, with quicker pressing and faster counter attacking. Let's fucking hope so. I remember Forest beating someone 7-0, and they scored loads of goals throughout the season.

The main problem remains, but fucking hell, this change was needed.

They've been discussing Nunu of Five Live and everyone spoke very highly of him, particularly Conner Coady who played under him at Wolves, saying that he improved him as both a person and a footballer.  "You win everything with width" is his mantra.

I was left very encouraged.

Sullivan will have wanted a 12 month contract but no doubt Nuno has his terms and forced his hand (good for him). Best of the out of work bunch, would rather have had Silva but Sullivan dosen't do contract buy-outs under any circumstances. Our trajectory will be unchanged until Sullivan sells up. This is just another reactionary band aid and lets hope Nuno at least injects some passion, unlike Potter who looked every bit a man sitting comfortably on his hefty chelsea payout.

I thought it was fine to give Potter the summer transfer window and start of another season. Then you could say he only really dropped points to Sunderland, so a game or 2 wouldn’t have been crazy. Probably the pressure of the fans got Sullivan to act sooner. Will the protests continue? They should to keep pressure on SnB.
On the whole it was pretty awful and I’m happy to see what Nuno does.

To be fair, I reckon they gave Potter plenty of time. Too much in fact. Was blatantly obvious last season that he wouldn't last too far into this one, so the summer transfer window and pre-season were wasted for no good reason beyond them wanting it to appear like they do back their managers.

Cant get past the feeling this is another dud appointment. This guy has done the rounds and got good contracts without really achieving much. Still it's going to be hard to attract a good manager to a club that has Sullivan and Brady involved. 
Good luck Nuno, let's see where we are by Xmas and whether we can get anyone in over January to give us a lift.

If he's the 18 yard Maginot line, hide in our box passive shite, then he won't last his 3 year deal.

Simply don't know enough to judge which it will be. But looking forward to seeing the best of Paqueta, Summerville, Bowen, Guilherme, and maybe even Soucek again.

 

Yep got to agree with that.  The frustration was once Lingard wasn't interested we never went out and got another player of that type which made it click, just a succession of slow players that contributed nothing counter attack wise. 

As much as many of us may want to see attacking football, could you imagine Ange's high line with the slow coaches in this team, it would be absolute suicide.  Fingers crossed Nuno will get a tune out of what we have because it's a hell of a wait until we can get anyone else in playing wise.  

 

 

We’d have been screwed with ‘Ange’. He only didn’t completely bomb at spurs because of van der Ven and his absolute pace to cover at the back. As soon as he was worked out after the first couple of games it was only that which made anything work for them. I think their results with and without him were absolute night and day. 

Im happy to see counter attacking football if it’s exciting to watch and we have constant attacking ambitions where we get opportunities and as others are saying even a mid press to disrupt the other team rather than 10 men within 25 yards of our own goal for 70 mins of a match. And of course score some goals and win some games. And just that all oir players, particularly our best ones, are put in the best position to succeed and be effective. Something which our previous two managers absolutely didn’t do at all most of the time.

Saying we’ve had four managers in eighteen months sounds bad but maybe it’s better put as two managers through a season. 

I am sure that Watford, as an extreme example, had three managers in a season of league games.

Watford, probably, or Leeds when they were owned by the mad Italian. 

My opinion of Nuno is that he has the credentials of a successful Premier League manager (not be confused by a winning one); But he’s coming into a side that a mishmash of three managers personnel, and unhappy and divided squad, many of which are shit.

From what I've read, Nuno works a lot on organisation and there's a lot of repetition on the training ground to drill specific roles into the players. This seems like a much more effective approach at getting the best out of the players at your disposal, compared to Potter's emphasis on flexibility, wanting his players to be able to adapt to different roles, tactics and formations, often in the same game.

I remember the same discussions when Moyes rolled up second time. The concensus being that so long as we were getting results the football would be tolerated. And do it came to pass. After an 18 month spell of getting results our league form fell off a cliff in the second half of the 21/22 season ( which I still link back to the departure of Alan Irvine ). The calls for Moyes to go grew louder and louder from that point onwards. He manahed to survive because in Europe his style was still effective and that and winning the Conf cup papered over the poor form.  

Nuno having complete control of recruitment via super agent Jorge Mendes is probably key to the future this time around.  He managed to attract Portugese players to Wolves they would not ordinarily get to create a bery good team albeit ultimately it was a stepping stone as many then went onto the richer clubs.  

So assuming he can get some improvements immediately ( no guarantee ) I see maybe 2 ok seasons before it all unravels but will be overjoyed to he proven wrong

I'm not at all fussed about Moyes/Numo football when it works.  It's when it doesn't work, it becomes negative and boring

Fast, counter attacking football (which it can produce) keeps me on the edge of my seat.

It fell apart when teams allowed us to have the ball under Moyes.  He didn't have much of a plan B to that.  Hopefully Nuno does.

That's exactly where I'm at, Stubbo.

The Moyes football in the and around the Lingard era was electric, we were always in games, was never bothered about going behind because we always seemed to turn games around. That I'd be more than happy with, and I do actually think we're more suited to that than anything at the moment.

If it's just basic 10 men behind the ball, barely getting out of our half, getting Antonio out of retirement style of football, then it will be a disaster. Not that I'm an expert on his teams, but I can never remember them being like that, he's always managed to get the best out of good classy players, like Neves at Wolves and Gibbs-White at Forest, hopefully he'll do the same with Paqueta and Fernandes.

Let's hope so.
