For instance, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac are very good but somebody bought my ticket, because I wouldn't pay 70 quid to see actual Fleetwood Mac play. In fact, I might pay good money just not to have to listen to a Mick Fleetwood drum solo...

Fleetwood Mac were   great .
 I loved THE BAND..(more 60s I know) but   growing up in the 70s....Levon Helm absolute legend.
It's not like it used to be.

I'm ok with the Who not a massive fan of all their work  but did go to the Quadrophenia  anniversary show at the Wembley arena  about ten years back which was a decent night out.

I've also seen the tribute band Who's Who as well as various other tribute bands over the years at the Tropic of Ruislip  most have been pretty good to be fair.

no, they can charge what they like while divs keep filling the arenas. most I spent was back in 2012 on radiohead. £70 for standing, fairly close to the stage at the o2. the band was as good as I expected, a brilliant show but still spoilt by far too many inconsiderate cunts with their arms constantly outstretched filming the stage. like the black mirror episode where you have all those cunts walking around constantly filming. it spoilt what should have been a 10/10 night. six years later, I went to see sparks in consecutive years for half the price and far fewer amateur cameramen/women

nothing against them performing again, despite his voice being gone long ago but bands like the cure manage/ensure to cap prices to make it affordable for fans so there's no excuse for these piss taking amounts

*though, I see even the cure now wanting over 110 for the cheapest tickets available next year. all these legacy bands can fuck off. support rising talent*

I suppose the 'excuse' is that whilst people keep buying them, they have no reason not to keep pushing the prices up. If I was a promoter I would be annoyed if I sold a ticket for £50 and a tout then sold it on for £100. That would be £50 potential revenue lost.

The hard-nosed view would be that if you have 100,000 tickets to sell, you are pricing at the point where you will sell 100,000 tickets to those willing to pay the most, not the 'average' punter.

Harsh I know but this is not an industry known for being warm and inclusive...

each to their own, and like the oasis bandwagon/ticket fiasco, I'm not telling people how to spend their money but the prices I've heard being asked for rush tickets is sickening. some reports of close to half a grand for a view from the gods. would love to have finally seen one of my musical heroes (lifeson) live, but for these prices they can fuck off

Blimey now there's a topic in itself.

Not sure how I feel about the Rush thing. Massive fan since 1979 but I admired the standard they set when they (previously) stopped. They did what so few bands do and quit while they were ahead.

Clearly Geddy and Alex should do whatever they want to do. I just hope it doesn't signal (see what I did there) a drop in the very high standards that they set right up to that last gig in LA.  

I've talked myself out of going to Toronto to see it, but might be hard to resist if they come to Europe.

The Who were a great band and had a truly great songwriter, Townshend, and singer, Daltrey.

But their whole sound was defined by their utterly inimitable rhythm section. Losing Moon was bad enough, but when the Ox died they really should have packed it in.

Mind you, if people want to spend a fortune watching an overpriced, geriatric tribute band, that's entirely up to them.

The power of brand names is quite extraordinary. I am also amazed at how many adverts I see for gigs featuring photos of the band taken decades ago. The promoters are actively selling what people remember of a band a long time ago.

I suppose many who buy tickets don't really think carefully enough about what the passage of time will have done to the 'product' that they are buying?

Apparently they did a "Farewell Tour" back just before Who's Next...and then a tour every few years after that.

So, bye, then.

I still remember Status Quo's 'End Of The Road' tour in 1984 (I think).

Possibly the earliest false retirement from touring ever!

This track is definitely one of their best.
