Honeyghan beat Don Curry, IIRC the best pound for pound boxer in the world at the time. For that, he must get in any top 10, even though he quickly sank without trace. Excellent as he was, I don't think you can put Michael Watson in the Top 10 - he was very much the third man in a UK trinity.

I well remember the unfancied John H Stracey going to Mexico City and, much to everyone’s surprise, putting one over Jose Napolese to win his world title.

I was at school with son of one of Terry Lawless trainers, Frank Black, about a week after Stracey won that title he brought Stracey over the Leys Lido in Dagenham. Well documented Stracey couldn’t believe the mob over there that  were astounded to see a real world champion

I remember Stracey fighting Dave Boy Green. Some black eye!

Think David Haye gets in the top 10, for me.

Undisputed, Ring Magazine Champion at Cruiser, HW Champion, might not have massive names on his record, and obviously had the Thompson loss (also ignoring the Bellew nonsense, he was finished) but I don't think there's been a Brit with his sheer KO power, at respective weights.

It's never science, and ultimately it all comes down to opinions, but I always think you have to look at who a fighter has beaten - and weigh up how often they put away fighters who were "good" or better by global standards.

Every name on that list was a good boxer, though. It's not weak.

That's not a bad list. Although, I'd have Fury slightly higher up than, say, Minter. Minter was a good middleweight, but he never really beat a top-class (by global standards) opponent. Probably the best opponent he beat was Emile Griffith, and he was in his late 30s (38/39?) by the time Minter faced him. Minter beat some good fighters, but not of the same calibre as people that Fury beat such as Klitschko.

Agree with the point about Michael Watson. He was as tough a nails and only lost to good fighters. Also agree that Conteh should be on that list - an excellent light heavy/cruiser. I'd have Lewis above Calzaghe (who was superb), too. Lennox was a sublime heavyweight - one of the best of all time when focused. Sure, he lost a couple to sucker-punches, but that's heavyweight boxing for you: if a 17 stone bloke tags you, you're going over. Plus, he avenged both defeats. The way he dismantled Holyfield - twice (I don't buy the robbery "draw") was excellent. At his best, Lewis was formidable, and probably the best "British" boxer of all time. That's why Bowe wouldn't fight him.

But that is some list. Britain has punched above its weight.
