Max Kilman
This lad is a real problem.
At £40mil, it's getting to the point of worst ever signing territory. The worst crime in football is hiding, centre back is probably the one position you can half get away with it, but not for too long. Shirks taking responsibility, who imo makes him worse than Mavropanos, at least he fronts up, which can lead to mistakes. Kilman doesn't, so it doesn't get highlighted.
We've obviously got a massive overhaul in the summer, but for me, he is the biggest problem in our team and we need to cut our losses if we can. It took a while to spot, because he hides, but you can't fool people for too long. Wolves fans told us, some wouldn't have it, but they were dead right. Absolute fraud of a player.

Re: Max Kilman
Yeah, I reckon Todibo is way more talented than Kilman but his performances are just as bad. I've never seen a player so clearly not give a shit, especially a centre back. He looks like he wishes he was chilling at home smoking a spliff. Actually, half the time he looks like he has just smoked a spliff.

Re: Max Kilman
Kilman is a melt but it's Todibo that really grinds my gears with his lack of effort and strolling about. He makes it pretty damned obvious he hates playing for the club and doesn't give a fuck. He has to be one of the worst signings ever given the ridiculous outlay on him. The same can be said for Kilman of course but he at least tries to show he cares.

Re: Max Kilman
Was at the game so didn’t see Gary O’Neill but he has always been impressive in his thoughts when I’ve seen him
Maybe Nuno could do with him as an assistant
That analysis of Kilman rings true doesn’t it?
Always looking for an opportunity to loaf & not switched on when danger presents itself
You only have to be a yard or two off against decent forwards & you are TOAST

I'm amazed that O'Neill talked about Kilman's "pace". He doesn't have any. Any half-paced forward gets three yards ahead of him over a ten-yard dash. He's slow. Like, properly slow.
But what O'Neill said about switching off the engine is the bigger concern. He's absolutely right about that - you can see Kilman drift off during games. Too often he's caught out when the ball suddenly bursts out of midfield towards him or our defence. He absolutely does switch off and he's often yards away from his man or where he needs to be. You can get away with that in the lower leagues. But in the Premier League you will get murdered by good players/teams every time. It's a good description by O'Neill, that.

Re: Max Kilman
For someone so big he is very weak. His first ever game in the first 15 minutes I remember thinking we had signed a player. Strode out with the ball and pinged it 30 yards to feet. Thought he was Alvin Martin Mark II for about 15 minutes! Since then he has gone downhill quickly. Trying to see positives but he just can't defend. Hence why I would put Soucek there instead. At least Tomas would head away danger and put his body in the way. Until last night I wondered if Irving may be an option at centre back but was surprised he too got bullied so much. We need a Craig Dawson or James Collins type in there, in fact those two now would make a better pairing than Kilman and Todibo.

Re: Max Kilman
I don’t know how he has made it as a professional player, let alone how a coach who had worked with him previously saw fit to value him north of £40m.
I gave him time initially on that basis. If a coach who had him previously made him his #1 target, he must have something, I thought.
He absolutely does not. He makes Upson look like a warrior. He is shit scared of getting his head on the ball. He is 6’4, somehow blagged a career as a top flight centre half, and is scared to head a fucking football.
And not only did Lope go out on a limb for him, Potter saw no need to upgrade our central defence this summer!
It’s all a load of absolute bollocks, isn’t it?

Agreed. He's also a fantastic header of the ball, which we don't have. I'd kill for Maguire right now.
Re: Max Kilman
Kilmen is a pussy and we paid way too much for him but he is not completely hopeless. However Todebo was blowing out of his arse at 10 minutes and is a complete bottle job. Made no effort to close down the Brentford player for the second goal. If you compare how Everton for instance through themselves into blocks on shots all over the pitch we just stand off half the time which is why we concede so many shots on goals which leads to goals. That is not down to ability but is down to desire

Re: Max Kilman
I’d better vacate this thread, as I don’t want to be only criticising Kilman. Because we are 100% circus amateurish, we have signed many other expensive wastes of space: Todibo, Fullkrug, JWP, Guilherme, Rodriguez (wages alone), Hermansen. It’s a long, long list of utter drivel.
And it stems from the calamitous way the club is run and structured. Shit trickles down from one arsehole.

Of the hundreds of things you could pick…I’d genuinely like to know if we scouted him at all. Or whether we just relied on Lopetegui’s recommendation?
Because if we did rely only on Lopetegui, who was unemployed for a reason at the time, then it highlights how unprofessional and amateurish our use of scouting, analysts and transfer teams are.
It doesn’t matter if your (untried) new manager says something. A professional club, when asked to spend £40m on transfer fees, and millions and millions on a seven-year contract at 100k a week, SHOULD still robustly analyse what they think they’re getting. If the new manager is right, some evidence will emerge supporting his view and you proceed.
I’m just a fan. But having watched Kilman, I cannot for the life of me conceive of how any manager, coach, analyst or player would think he’s worth £40m and merited the longest contract we’ve ever signed. It’s impossible to fathom.
Extra galling when you think of all the players we've been linked with or submitted half arsed guaranteed to fail Sullivan special bids for over the years that have gone on to be good, great or at least competent at this level and when we do actually splurge, it's on that massive waste of space. Almost every player we sign seems to turn to shit if not immediately, then over time.
AWB looks pretty shocking now to boot. Fernendes looks half the player, Diouf I am sure will be shocking before too long. Bowen and Summerville look the only half good players we've got. It takes a special kind of magic to make everything this awful.

Re: Max Kilman
Absolute dogshit. Embarrassing for the goal, especially. Absolutely bullied.
O'Neill spoke about him before the game and said he's prone to 'resting' (i.e. I assume a kind way of saying 'switching off') during games and putting himself in positions where he needed to make recoveries rather than be on top of things and he worked with him to try and cut it out of his game. Looks like no cսnt has been able to cut it out of his game. 5.5 years left on his contract..... Even Fulham or whoever it was surely aren't going to be interested still after last night. He's an absolute albatross for any manager coming in. No way are we shifting him any way other than taking a huge hit on his contract- but does that fuck us insanely with PSR?
We have NO leader back there. Not one of them is leader material. Not one of them has the positional and organisational sense or discipline to marshall a back line. We desperately need a commanding CB in January, even if it costs a lot of money. Failing that even a competent one like Dawson. We need a mean streak back there. They are a bunch of powder puffs with no nastiness or physicality about them at all. A succession of terrible buys by multiple people:
Kilman- Lop and Sullivan
Mav- Moyes (I presume- could have been Sullivan)
Todibo- Stiedten
Add Aguerd as a terrible, terrible buy and Igor, well, that's just cheapo desperation to get ANY available body into the club. If he's not sniffed the pitch much, you KNOW he must be fucking dogshit because he'd have got some game time by now if he was even remotely competent. What sense is there in loaning another team's fifth choice centre back?

We conceded 74 goals in 38 league games in the season before he arrived so we've actually improved. No point putting the blame on one player. There's a cancer running through our club and we all know its name.

Genuinely, I’d like to know what we “thought” we were buying.
For my money, our worst signing of all time. Truly, calamitously hopeless. And a reflection of everything that has been wrong at the club in recent years.
I said this at the time we were first linked with him. It’s like a final destination film, seeing our slow death piece by piece.
