Ipswich Town did it under Alf Ramsey in 1960-61 and 1961-62. That wasn't long before Cloughie did it.

Yes I was at that game where Hurst scored six and the Brian Dear game where he scored five goals in a twenty minute spell either side of half time

Didn't Brian Dear score five goals in just 20 minutes or something? Geoff Hurst banged in six once, think he admitted he punched the first one in!

Well in 1929/30 Vic Watson scored in 30 out of 42 games for us so that's a load of bollocks for a start
And yes it was in First Division

Of course our 1980 FA Cup team went on to attempt the very same thing but injuries always did for us after starting a couple of seasons in spectacular fashion. The injuries were so bad we almost got relegated in Sir Trev's last season in 1984/85 but when Alan Dev came back from injury for 1985/86 we almost won the damn thing but a brutal winter and fixture pile-up did for the team in the end. And Johnny Metgod

To be fair to Cloughie, back in those days the difference between first and second division was very slight. You could just about slip a cigarette paper between the two.
If you knew how to stick the ball in the back of the net then it wasn't really a huge step up to make. A lot of teams who won the second division would often have the momentum to go again in the following season and challenge for the first division title and in a few cases, some even won it!

They do have to narrow it down to keep Shearer at the top
Obviously Greaves scored more top flight goals
And Vic Watson had many more goals at a better rate even though most were in Div2

Seeing as Clough only scored ONE single solitary goal in the top flight he'd have probably had to play into his 40s to have beaten Shearer's record.

Knee injury at 29 back in the days when they were career ending
Yet another who would have gone past the ‘LEADING SCORER’ Shearer otherwise

Yeah, you're missing the fact that Clough played all but a few games in the old 2nd division, so not really comparable to players like Greaves.
