Cowdenbeath 2-1 Celtic B Stuart McDowell scored an injury time winner to help Cowdenbeath to their first ever win over Celtic B. The home side had taken the lead in the 12th minute through a well taken goal from Dylan Mauchin but the visitors equalised just two minutes later with Calvin Keenan getting on the scoresheet. The Blue Brazil felt they should have had a penalty late on with Gary Fusco being sent to the stands for making his feelings clear but Paul McLean's side were not to be denied as McDowell headed past Corey Shaw in the 91st minute. Celtic B were reduced to ten men as Filip Skorb was shown a red card for kicking out at Jack Denham but that was the final act of the game and the points stay at Central Park. Cowdenbeath move up to 8th in the Park's Motor Group Lowland League, leap frogging today's opponents.  TEAM : Haldane, Adamson (Walker), Newman, S Williamson, Denham, Wedderburn (Watt), Ferrie (Mwangi), Allan, Lawson (Downie), Mauchin (McDowell), Ness SUBS NOT USED : McLean, Parker NEXT UP : We travel to Ainslie Park on Friday 5th December to take on Heart of Midlothian B.

𝐂𝐎𝐖𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐯 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐁 At present no inspection is planned for Central Park tomorrow. As would be the norm an assessment of pitch conditions will be made before 9am on Saturday. The pitch itself was unplayable yesterday and this morning but was thawing as the day wore on. By late afternoon a sizeable area of the pitch was fine. With rain and slowly increasing temperatures forecast overnight we are optimistic re tomorrow’s game going ahead. If position is not wholly clear at 9am tomorrow then an inspection will be arranged for around 11am. Both the match referee and Celtic FC have been kept abreast of the position.

Those who asked me to do so were diehard Cowdenbeath fans who didn’t want to see their Club die. They knew that being Cowdenbeath born and bred, I might well have an interest in my hometown Club which was under serious threat of closure.  I accepted that challenge and role. And many of those self-same fans then formed the Board of Directors. We certainly didn’t know where the journey would take us although I don’t think anyone, not least myself. envisaged still being involved almost two decades on. There have been highs and lows over those years both on and off the park. The club of course had already lost ownership of Central Park and the income from the stock cars. Against that backdrop, in my own mind, our greatest achievement (apart from defeating Dunfermline in the play-off game!) was perhaps my being able to secure the majority shareholding of the Club. My hope, and the aim of the Board, was to secure the future of the Club and enable that future to be in the hands of the supporters and the wider community in Cowdenbeath. Despite the efforts of a great many people, in an ever increasingly difficult financial environment, we were relegated from the SPFL. I cannot over state how damaging and painful this was and is.    Relegation to the Lowland League has been extremely taxing, not just for Cowdenbeath but for every former SPFL Club which has suffered the same fate. Playing in a league with little or no prize-money and reduced gate receipts, has resulted in an ever decreasing playing budget year on year. A recent statement from Berwick Rangers tells you all you need to know about the harsh reality of Lowland League life for clubs such as ourselves with business models and infrastructure built on SPFL lines.  This Season, it is testament to the Manager and his team that they have assembled a squad of young talented players coupled with some experienced pros. Fans will have their own opinion on performances thus far in 2025/26, but the realities of the budget means we must concentrate on the future by investing in young players as the basis for future success.  I and the Board believe that this is the right approach, but success will not be achieved in the short term and we must stick together with a view to achieving the future success I have spoken of. I do not pretend that this will be an easy journey.  I have previously stated publicly that I am willing to gift 51% of the Clubs shareholding to an individual or a group of people with the interests of the Club at heart – those who would be able to inject significant new monies into the Club and take on the day to day running.   This new investment benefits the Club and the Club alone. I derive no financial benefit whatsoever. I had hoped that the formation of the Cowdenbeath Independent Supporters Society (CISS) might be the vehicle for this transformation. Thus far it has made a valuable contribution but not reached the levels whereby it could take over the running of the club. It has a real role to play going forward but is not at present the solution.  I am sure everyone wants the Club to thrive and be challenging at the top end of the table but that requires a significantly enhanced playing budget.   The Board and I also acknowledge we cannot go on indefinitely.  We not only need new investment, we need new energy, fresh ideas and the impetus to drive us forward. Our fans and the Cowdenbeath Community must understand that without additional investment and new people becoming actively involved, I fear for the future of the Club. The Directors who have served during my Chairmanship have given so much. My profound thanks are a scant reward. However, the day is fast approaching when they must be allowed to step aside. This is yet another reason why we need people to step forward now and become actively involved.      In an attempt to progress matters, I have asked two Cowdenbeath legends Eric Archibald and Graham Buckley to become involved and help spearhead a drive to find people and investment in return for the gift of the majority shareholding of the Club. Both hold the Club dear to their hearts and gave their all when they played. I know they will give their all now to find the right people with the ambition, and candidly, the financial wherewithal to take the Club forward and back to the SPFL. Our fanbase reaches well beyond the boundaries of the town. It extends worldwide. Everyone can help in some way – as so many already do - in this case either by contributing what they can afford to the CISS or by knowing and introducing someone who may be interested in a larger and more impactive investment.
