Well it's a fast turnaround for this one.  After a hard fought, but somewhat disappointing point at Old Trafford, we head to the south coast for an arguably more difficult looking game on paper.

Brighton have been a bogey side since they arrived in the division, as well as being the envy of many fans for their progressive owner and stellar recruitment model.

Teamwise, Nuno gets to 'bring' Paqueta back (I won't use the term 'welcome'), and the messaging around Summerville remains opaque at best.  Plus as to what happened to Guilherme who knows, but with both him and Igor missing we went from a squad of 3 Braziliians to none versus Man Utd in one fell swoop.

This leaves at least a decision around Soucek, but if Summerville (or Guilherme) were to be available, another decision around 2 of 3 from Fernandes, Magassa, and Potts.

Predicted Lineup

I'm working on the basis that Paqueta will come back in, and Summerville will at best be fit for the bench:
Areola

Wan Bissaka  Mavropanos  Todibo  Diouf

Magassa  Potts

Bowen   Paqueta   Fernandes

Wilson

Subs:  Hermansen, Kilman, KWP, Irving, Kante, Earthy, Guilherme, Summerville, Marshall
Predicted Score:  Brighton 2 - 1 West Ham

Brighton remain high up in the current form table, scoring twice as many as they concede.  West Ham are midtable over the last 5 games, are at a scoring ratio of roughly 1:1.

Hard to see anything but a defeat here, but we have a punchers chance (all be it, the blows themselves are fairly lightweight and will need to find the Brighton chin with surgical precision to knock them out).

If Summerville is fit I'd put him in instead of Soucek.

If he isn't, maybe give Earthy or Kante a go.

Paqueta shouldn't walk back into the team.

Isn't it a fact that over the last year or so we've been a lot more effective in terms of getting results when he doesn't play/start, than when he does?

Agree, Earthy probably deserves a go more than Guilherme, he looked really comfortable before his injury.

That's ridiculous, lots of clubs have players that won't be with them next season.. You don't leave them out when you're paying for them for half a season.. That's what pre season is for... Maybe we shouldn't have played Rice  when we knew he was going for a whole season.

We had 70% pass completion the other day, not exactly keeping the ball is it.

Paqueta is at 79% how does he bring it down?

Agree, we should stick with same midfield as the other day.  Fed up of Paqueta losing possession and play acting.

Nonuts will parachute Crapaqueta straight back into the team, our ball retention will tank as the overhyped showboat cսnt gives it away with reckless abandon. The diving will go up a level as the self obsessed twat tries to demonstrate the conspiracy against him. That'll probably cost us a goal as it usually does.

Morale will be in the shitter as the ball keeps coming straight back at us, it'll be more unwatchable backs to the wall shite.

1 shot on target if we're lucky.

All because Nonuts just has to pick the cսnt.

Basically just a wind up cսnt.  Doesn't need psycho-analysing...his posts aren't funny, but his persona amuses me.

Find it remarkable at times people have the energy to keep up this kind of schtick on this kind of platform. I guess whatever floats your boat.

A word of caution ( nah not me I never go for just one word 😊). The Mancs, esp in midfield, are one of the slower outfits in a PL that gets faster and more physicsl every year and its whats holding them back imho. So it will be interesting to see how we cope against Brighton. They have Baleba now, their latest great find for centre mid after Bissouma and Caicedo, and he is a proper athlete. Not sure about who else they have in that atea but we know they will dominate possession since their footballing strategy ( aka long term plan ) has been predicated on that and has allowed them to recruit very well, sell players and change coaches seamlessly.  So our young midfield will need to be on somg again just 3 days after a proper workout at the Mancs. Fortunately having 3 lads in their early twenties makes that a lot easier.
Paqueta coming straight back in seems wrong but we cannot risk Soucek as a wide right midgielder again. He tried hard but was clearly a weakness in the teamer.  Whats more important for me is not to keep playing Fernandes out of position. He’s better in the centre of midfield  ( as he showed last 20 mins last night ) so Id stick Paqueta wide right and make clear he’s “doing a job” like a good team player should. Also if Paqueta plays for Paqueta and not the team be ready asap to stick Kante or ideally Earthy on who has played wide right effectively while at Bristol City on loan last season.

Anyway, point is one game against the Mancs does not necessarily mean we have central midfield fully solved. It will take a few games more to know that starting tomorrow.

Having said all that, upfront remains our biggest problem. No outball as Wilson’s game is not holding it up or running the channels. Having Summerville as a sub should help though.

Finally, another of our nemisis’s teturns for Brighton…. Yep, Danny Welbeck. Old, injury prone but on his day still a decent player. Todibo and Mavro need to give him nothing

Was a bit tongue in cheek. But that's the answer you get if you don't want him to play. Personally I wouldn't change Thursdays team unless Summerville became available.

Paqueta can fuck off. If Summerville is fit, that's what we should add.

..................Areola
Bissaka Mavro Todibo Diouf
............Magassa Potts
Bowen Fernandes Summerville
.................Wilson

I would even sub Kante before Paqueta.

Yup, he even said it in the aftermath of the Liverpool game as well. It's going to be pretty divisive amongst us, particularly if he doesn't score or assist.

Tough game, would snap your arm off for a point. Villa scored 4 there the other night though, so they can be got at.

Paqueta should be on the bench, can't have him back in the side after a red like that plus the fact his G/A output is pants anyway.  I would bring in Earthy over Soucek,  and have Paq on the bench as someone to actually offer an impact in the second half.

The other consideration about chucking Paqueta straight back in the deep end again after his recent return from a suspension which is his fragile state of mind. It takes the slightest of thing to set him off and will be a target for the opposition and their fans. Coming off the bench would actually benefit him after what happened upon his Liverpool starting return where he proved he couldn't handle it.
