Who is our worst signing?
Re: Who is our worst signing?
Afternoon
The bloke that utterly pissed me off and still does is Don 'Bud' Huchinson
Didn't want him the first time and my ire compounded when we resigned the pillock
A record signing too
Making matters worse, the cսnt now appears as a pundit/co coms
Irrational dislike maybe, but I can't shake the contempt

(So not talking about a Fullkrug where we'd never have expected to make a lot back on the fees and you have to accept that buying someone of that age for that money) We took a 35 million loss on him. He's still only 32 so when he came to us in 2018 aged prob 25 and moved on age 28, we should have got a LOT more from him.
That's more down to piss poor negotiators at the Club and Moyes hell bent on slinging him out the door. Sullivan/Gold/Brady have got an impressive track record of selling assets for lower than they got them for and in some cases a lot lower. Even when we have a very saleable asset on our hands we typically get much less than we should.
Absolutely- there was always that weird stubbornness from Moyes where he just would refuse to use the players that he didn't ask for but Sullivan brought in- Benrahma and Scamacca spring to mind first, or players he didn't fancy.
But yes, the track record of buying and selling is fucking ABYSMAL. Let's face it, if Sullivan and Brady were working for any other club owner rather than being the ones ultimately in charge, they'd have been relieved of their duties long ago for such sustained catastrophic losses on transfer business and piss poor negotiating skills both with players and other clubs. That famous Sullivan email again springs to mind. It's a wonder how either of them ever, ever got to where they have in the business world if that's how bad they are at making deals.

People forget about how much Fabianski's loss affected the whole team. That first 7 games up until his injury we were flying, up in 5th place, with Felipe Anderson assisting and Haller scoring (4 in his first 7 games). Even Yarmolenko was looking good with 3 goals in 6. Those three players are generally considered disastrous signings but maybe it didn't need to be that way.
When you think about it that injury (or more precisely Roberto's utter awfulness) was the start of a whole downward spiral, only slowed down for a while by our good form in the lockdown era.
That 1 key injury seriously derailed us from a promising start under Pellegrini finishing 10th whilst occasionally playing attractive Football. As a Club historically we really do suffer the worst luck with regards to injuries and many of them end up being freak one's at just the wrong time.
Unusual for your main Keeper to be out for so long which set us back greatly at the time and effectively cost Pellegrinis job which I always felt was the wrong decision when weighing up the circumstances of it all.
Ashton and his career ending ankle snap on England duty, another high profile one.
Keiron Dyer horrific double leg break by a cowardly Bristol Rovers shitcunt.
Andy Carroll persistently injured throughout his time with us.
Lanzini again having a career threatening ACL knee injury whilst on International duty with Argentina, echoes of Ashton all over again not being the same as he was after 1st call up.
We really have had some awful luck with injuries to key players and in a number of cases out of our hands. So fucking frustrating and what might have been..Richard Hall was another and then there was the Callum Davenport stabbing.
Davenport leg stabbings is a great shout. Also Collison having to retire young at 27yo having struggled persistently with his injuries too.
Club has been cursed. Depressing to think how many have been badly effected and in a few cases freak injuries too like Davenport as you point out.
Think Frankie Mac career also went up the swannie once Chris Kamara cut his ankle in half. The list is endless..
Our players have been on the end of some right dirty cսnt challenges you hate to see in Football.
For further bad luck although not technically an injury but a serious illness of cancer that ended up taking the young life of promising Tombides just as his career was beginning to take off.

There have been worse players at West Ham than Kilman, sure. But nobody is quite the same combination of poor player and massive financial catastrophe.
The only thing in Kilman's favour is that he still has a chance to turn things around. A bit.
In terms of poor quality, McKnight, Savio etc have to be right up there.
You're not taking the context into consideration. I'd err on the side of Kilman being the worst, but he was part of a £150mil lavish spending spree, with the whole league being awash with cash. And let's face it, as shit as he is, he is there every week, fit as a fiddle, and ultimately gives the best he can.
Benni McCarthy was signed when we had fuck all to spend, he was our last bit of transfer cash, and we knew EXACTLY what we were getting, because he'd recently played against us 3 stone overweight just weeks before.
Kilman to be fair, none of us truly knew jsut how bad he was gonna be. And he has had at least 5 really good games. The fat cսnt Benni, everyone apart from that plank Zola and the idiots running the club knew he couldn't run.
Context.

Killman. Especially as he was bought as premier league proven. Less spine than a stickleback .

Re: Who is our worst signing?
I've still got to go with Kilman, I'm afraid.
At £40m, the fee is eye watering for somebody who has generally been really poor.
But what tips the scales for me is the SEVEN year contract on £100k a week.
He's the worst £40m footballer I've seen, and he's on the longest contract we've ever given a player. Unless he improves considerably, he will be a millstone around the neck of the club, financially, for a lot longer than any other player mentioned on this thread.

It was the fact he largely disappeared from doing anything effective afterwards that was a huge let down. He's back in Brazil now playing for Palmeiras probably in what should have been Guillerme's position...

To think he was probably signed to more or less play the role Alan Dev used to do back in the day! Unbelievable
I reckon he was played out of position a lot for us. Expected to play left wing or wing back and track back and make tackles which he was absolutely shit at. Not to say he could have been excellent or he wasn't a bad buy, but he could have been used a lot better without exposing his weaknesses and mitigating his strengths. I think he could have been used better in a more advanced role alongside Arnie or Antonio.
But that's all academic and he goes down as another hugely expensive waste of money. Could be the player we've made our biggest ever financial loss on?
