Paqueta Paqueta - Latest news

Post Alan »

"Sport Bible New report on Lucas Paqueta's spot-fixing charges reveals how much of next season West Ham star can play There has been an update on Paqueta's case. Alex Brotherton Lucas Paqueta will be free to play for West Ham for most of next season despite facing spot-fixing charges. Paqueta has been charged by the Football Association with four separate instances of spot-fixing. The 28-year-old stands accused of deliberately getting himself booked during four Premier League matches. It is one of the most serious cases of spot-fixing involving a top-flight player in England, and could land Paqueta with a lengthy ban. However, the Brazil international can continue to play until the disciplinary process has been completed. According to The Times, the outcome of the process could be delayed until the end of the 2024-25 season or beyond. That is due to the complexity of the case; Paqueta's lawyers say it will take many months to secure all the witness statements and relevant information they need for their defence. That's because the case spans three countries - England, Brazil and Spain - and involves a large number of people. The charges allege that Paqueta got himself booked during matches against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth over the past two seasons so that “one or more persons” could profit financially. The investigation that preceded the charges took eight months. In September 2023, Brazilian outlet Globo reported that suspicious gambling patterns were identified in Brazil relating to Paqueta being booked against Aston Villa in March that year. The bets were reportedly made using West Ham's shirt sponsor Betway, via accounts belonging to people linked to Paqueta. The FA initially gave the player until June 3 to respond to the charges, but his lawyers were granted an extension. English football's governing body has refused to put a timescale on the case. Paqueta has been linked with a move to Brazilian giants Flamengo this summer, but this latest development will give encouragement to new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui that he can use the midfielderthis season."

Our top scorer and second highest rated player this season on stats sites just marginally behind Bowen.

Yes he's underperformed as have all of them yet despite those above stats so many want him dropped.

Oh and the one thing he isn't is lazy yet I see him accused of that below.

I'd love to know who those that want him dropped are replacing him with, I've seen quite a few this season and last wanting Irving replacing him, well until his recent starts.
The formation was spot on yesterday 4-1-4-1 which can also be 4-3-3 on the counter attack.

That's as good as it is going to get. We know our squad is chock full of deficiencies but EVERY player was actually in their natural position on the pitch yesterday and it showed.

It brought the best out of them - especially Paqueta.

The trouble is our bench is woeful. Well, apart from Soucek as an impact sub - that is definitely his role as most of us have been calling it over a year now.

Fernandes who has managed to assist just 6 goals in 76 top flight apps. I don't see him being a decent No.10. Defensive Midfield is where I'd prefer to see him play ratting about after the ball before knocking it on for others to attack.

I hope we can recall Alvarez from Turkey.

He can be an effective defender midfielder that just sits there and doesn't break forward. He needs to play in a triangle with the two central defenders and always be close to them. His yellow/red cards are always from bombing forward and then chasing back making a lunge because the lines are too open.

Cheech and Chong also need to be told - I don't even want you two cunts going up for a corner - your job is always to remain a few yards behind Alvarez's arse. He never ventures further than the outer edge of the centre circle and they are just behind on the centre line. For offside and all that.

Let the other midfielders bomb forward and track back.
It's funny how I posted this earlier and then what I predicted Alvarez could do if recalled from loan in tandem with the two central defenders is exactly the task given to Potts (awesome) today.

It ain't difficult. Nuno tried to prove he was a tactical genius for absolutely nothing as was proven in our last 2 matches. Why? He chucked away 6 points with his egotistical shenanigans.

Don't overthink things...keep the lines tight and keep your centre backs and defensive midfielder closer. In a tight triangle at all times in the middle of the pitch. Everyone else can bomb forward and track back together - that's what they are bloody there for! 🙄

If Nuno is serious for once about Paqueta then I do think our best bet is playing Paqueta as a No.10 as I do think he has it in him if we can get his head right. Job of a good man manager is to coax that out of him.

I have little faith in anyone else stepping up to the plate and feel it has to be persevered with. I certainly dont want to see him be a liability further back in Midfield gifting the ball away in dangerous areas, especially whilst low on confidence. Keep him up the pitch but behind a Striker and alongside the other 2 Forwards centrally always keeping him in the game.

We have little options thanks to our recruitment policy that's left us handicapped for viable alternatives.

Fornals was often fucked about in and out the side and played out of position during his time under Moyes who didn't seem to fully appreciate him. I found him brilliant at being a selfless Footballer who would sacrifice his own game for the sake of the Team. Just the kind of character you want around your Squad. Even though he deserved much better treatment than like he's a bit of a bit part. No surprise to seem him in yet another European Final, much like Scamacca went on to prove soon after leaving us.

Paqueta undoubtedly is the more skillful individually but oh so lacking in many other departments.

And a third of Paqueta's goals are from the Penalty spot. 7 from 21 and I don't think he won any of them himself either.

I would be willing to bet that Pablo was probably involved in as many team passes/movements that led to goals as Paqueta.

There are no readily available stats for that but I'm sure they exist somewhere.

Nope - Compare the stats

Fornals 203 app - 23 goals
Paqueta 130 app - 21 goals

A lot of the time Pablo was played out of position and came on as a sub in at least a third of the games he was involved in.

Paqueta always first choice and starts when available rarely if ever a sub.

Who's joking? 🃏

I'll say it again (from another thread)

From the very first time I saw him it was obvious that Paqueta was a deep lying number 8. In that role he's a link man that plays somewhere between the defender midfielders and forwards - not good enough to protect the defence but he's not a natural number 10 either because he just isn't creative enough.

Basically a Mark Noble that cost £50M quid. Pablo Formals was half the price and more effective despite always being played out of position.

He always tries to force an opening that just isn't there whereas a proper number 10 can read the game - something just clicks in their head when they detect a sliver of space they can thread a ball through. Lanzini was a proper 10 but very injury prone. There have been countless others.

That's it - There ain't no mystery

Unfortunately, finding the money is the easy bit. Being able to spend it, because of PSR restrictions is the difficult bit. Newcastle, could probably buy every player in the Premier League, with their financial backing, but PSR prevents it.

Lucas Paqueta avoids fine for charges relating to compliance with FA’s betting investigation

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has avoided a fine after breaching the Football Association’s rules over his co-operation with an investigation into allegations of spot-fixing.

Paqueta, 28, has been reprimanded and warned over his future conduct after an independent commission deemed a financial penalty was not necessary, in part due to the impact the investigation had on the Brazil international’s career and mental health.

In July, an independent commission found the charges against Paqueta in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules “to be not proven”. He denied all charges against him. The commission did, however, find that two further rule breaches relating to Paqueta’s co-operation with the FA’s investigation could be proven.

Following a hearing on October 17, the same commission determined that due to a combination of factors, a reprimand was the most appropriate sanction. The factors included the impact, “both financial and in relation to his career”, the investigation had on the collapse of Paqueta’s potential move to Manchester City in the summer of 2023, his significant financial outlay on legal fees to fight the allegations, the impact of the proceedings on the mental health of him and his family and his clean disciplinary record.

“Whilst none of those factors would, in isolation, have avoided a financial penalty being imposed, having regard to all of these circumstances we conclude that the appropriate and proportionate sanction is one of a reprimand and a warning as to future conduct and we so direct this,” the independent commission’s written reasons, published on Friday, read.

The two breaches of FA Rule F3 were in relation to the Brazilian’s alleged failures to comply with his obligations to answer questions and provide information to the investigation. The commission stated he had provided “no comment” answers to the majority of the FA’s questions during two interviews.

The commission added the lack of financial penalty would not set a precedent for anyone who failed to comply with future FA investigations, explaining that “the circumstances of this case are truly exceptional and why we determine that a departure from the usual level of sanction is justified”.

The FA were ordered to pay 90 per cent of the commission’s costs and Paqueta 10 per cent. The FA had accepted it should pay the majority of the costs but suggested Paqueta pay 25 per cent.

"He had previously volunteered the production of his mobile devices for interrogation. Significantly, this was all prior to charges being brought and did not ultimately frustrate the investigation. No evidence of prejudice has been advanced by the FA."

Then what in God's name is he being reprimanded for. What a total farce and a pathetic attempt by the FA to try to save face from the fact they had nothing on him. I really hope he and the club bring suit against the FA.
