Very promising performance. Its now about consistently playing at that level. We shall hopefully confirm over the next few games that young Freddie is our next “real deal” off the yoof development production line.  It takes a good run of games against different types of teams to really know but signs are good.

Earthy is hopefully the next and the nearest to Prem level imo from the u21s. Kante, Fearon, Landers, Orford and Golambekis ( spelling ?) the next group. Scarles Im not sure about personally as a left back. Just lacks that little bit of extra pace you now need to make it in the PL. Marshall is another that might just fall short of PL level.

I, quite rightly, lost my shit with Nuno, his decisions were crazy and he deserved to be called out on it. However I am glad that by fate he finally got the team selection right and the result showed what a difference a young, vibrant midfield makes.

It’s weird that Potter played him in all the pre season friendlies and, apparently, he played really well and then he didn’t pick him for league matches

All very odd. 
 

He had a relatively poor game against Lille in the final pre-season game, and then struggled when brought on against Chelsea.

In some ways, for him, he might have been better off out of it for a while.

When Rice came into the team I can recall him being subbed off at half time at times and dropped by both Bilic and Pellegrini.

Yeah, he was a bit younger - 18/19 - but it's not unusual for managers to turn to their more experienced players when things are especially grim.

The real positive from his sub appearance at Leeds and Sunday's game is he has definitely shown that he is competent in the Premier League.

Let's hope it's the start for him, and there are a string of similar breakthroughs from the academy - it makes things so much easier rather than having to buy for every position over and over again.

Same applies to Nuno and Irving. You don’t need any experience in the game to watch the two of them on training and work out who is the better footballer, you would think. At least he got there in the end.

It was lovely hearing the stadium singing 'He's one of our own' yesterday, albeit Souceks toe nail denied him the goal his performance deserved.  I rarely watch Match of the Day and only do it when we win, so very rare indeed.

Last night they had Michael Carrick and Rob Green as the pundits, I cannot remember them ever having two former hammers on there.  Carrick came over very much as I would have expected very intelligent and a great understanding of the game.  The analysis was far more about how West Ham and particularly young Fred played.   Well worth a watch on iPlayer.

Well at least I can say I havent slagged the lad off.  I for one was never sure he'd make a real breakthrough.  Probably why I am a bin salesman and not a prem league manager.... Saying that, I thought he was calm, mature and 'dare I say it' looked alot like Declan Rice with how he seems to 'float' around the pitch.  Loved how he moved the ball quickly through the lines and should he carry on like this then, as some have already said, we may well have a top young player on our books.  Well played son, you Dad must be almost as thrilled as you are.  Keep it up.
