In 2018 we had a very fortunate draw in the last 16 and the 2 decent teams we played we lost against. Croatia had played 2 games into extra time before us and still looked the fresher in the 2nd half. 

In 2021 we had all but 1 game at home. Strugged against Scotland at home and beat an average German team.

In 2024 we were so shite in the qualifying group. In fact pretty shite the whole tournament. Spain were much better and still are.

I think all those team should have and did win sweet FA.

Agreed, given the ability the players in those squad possessed we underperformed. For me, that was mainly down to the manager. But that doesnt take away from the fact that the ability the players in these squads had was as good as anything we have seen before.

But this crop is not the crop of 2018 is it?   I mentioned 4 tournaments.  2020,2022,2024,2026.

Eze is a terrific player, and with him not even making the 11 most likely shows how strong the squad is for the upcoming tournament, One of the strongest in the world infact. After a few near misses this for me is their final chance to fulfil their potential and get over the line. If they don't then the FA have failed to capitalise on the talent available for the last 4 tournaments. 

The golden generation you mention of 04/06 had Darius Vassell, Jermaine Jenas and a 16 year old uncapped winger on the bench btw.

Pickford**
Bellingham 
Palmer
Foden
Saka
Rice 

Kane*


*Although I do think old Father Time has just about caught up with him, he was one of the best regular goalscorers about in modern times

**I think his contribution has been underrated to our National sides cause. International level I think he's more than held his own

I think there might be more additions of quality youth players that could well enhance that lot further still. Max Dowman could be 1 to watch at Arsenal if he takes his chance.

England have a nucleus of real quality that could and probably should have produced a Trophy or 2 by now having twice come so close. Still a chance we could within the next 10 years if managed by the right Coach. Tuchel though aint that man. Someone like Howe could be.

Sooner we ditch the clueless Kraut the better though..

When at their best they are world class players. Trent has just signed for Real Madrid after winning it all here. Stones won it all. Rashford was world class leading up to Euro 2020.   Eze has just signed for Arsenal ffs, and was massive in winning Palace their only ever trophies. 

So yeah, the crop the last few years have won as much and are as good as the 04/06 lot.......they should have won something already.........and if they don't the next few years will be a spectacular failure.
